Important system updates for Jolicloud users

July 2nd, 2009 at 9:10 pm

We have done important updates on Jolicloud today and you need to make sure that your netbook is up to date or you won’t be able to use the coming features. Updating in Jolicloud is very easy. Every time there are new updates you are alerted with a special notifier on the top right of your screen.

Updates Notifier

1- Make sure you netbook is connected to the internet (you should not use 3G for your update if you want to spare your data plan)

2- In your Jolicloud, go to ‘Dashboard’ > ‘Updates’ or click on the notifier.

Updates 1

3- On the updates page, click on ‘Check for new updates’ on the right side of the screen.
It’s good to check for new updates as the team frequently releases small improvements.

4- If there are new updates to make, they will show up on screen.

Updates 2

5- Click on the ‘Update’ button, or on ‘Update All’ to run all updates at once and enter your password when prompted.

Updates 3

6- When the updates are done you will see the message ‘Your system is up-to-date’.

Updates 4

Updates usually take effect right away but you may need sometime to restart your computer to benefit from the new features.

Enjoy.

I followed the standard procedure to install as dual boot with Win7 and had a 60+GB partition free, but ended up with the first 58GB of that as an empty ext5 followed by only a 2.6GB root partition. I have now tried to increase this, but the partition manager refuse to use the available space.
End result is that I cannot install any more apps, e.g. OOffice etc.
Pls HELP!

About the updates - it would be nice to know what in them, as well as how many there are. As seen in the screenshot above, the update completes with just the text “Jolicloud - 4 updates”. I have tried clicking on the text hoping it would link to detailed info, but it does nothing :-(

We are aware of this bug that was corrected in the new alpha 2b. Have you tried to reinstall ? your online configuration will be safe.

After a new install today, I have updated. I got 112 updates and then a couple more made the icon pop up. But I have been checking for new updates since all 112 installed. Each time I press the check button, I get 2 or 3 or 5 more updates. Why not all at once. I have done it like 12 times this afternoon. Thanks.

Ok, finally. The next check produced 16 updates and no more after that. Interesting

Just installed on an eeepc 900, looks nice and have installed Skype and hope to do video calls. Nice work, hope you get rewarded for your effort! I’ll be recommending this distro.
