So… I need to reinstall my beta jolicloud with this new version?

Drew | March 29, 2010 at 7:34 pm

Does this mean that the html5 interface that is replacing the netbook remix interface is now available, or is it not available til the final release?

pbr | March 29, 2010 at 7:42 pm

I used the software update to get this on Friday. I assume this is a new release for the packaged build.

MrJiM | March 29, 2010 at 7:48 pm

html5 launcher is in this release?

gastonmdq | March 29, 2010 at 7:51 pm

I have the same doubt of Noob…do I need to reinstall??

Luis | March 29, 2010 at 8:02 pm

We luv jolicloud…

Luis | March 29, 2010 at 8:03 pm

Guatemala will learn about jolicloud…

Filippo | March 29, 2010 at 8:35 pm

I installed Jolicloud a few days ago, but there are no updates available now. Do I have to reinstall it?

pbr | March 29, 2010 at 8:53 pm

Again, if you’ve run updates and it shows “Jolicloud Robby Pre-Final” during boot-up, you’re good. Otherwise, run your updates.

Sonnyjimba | March 29, 2010 at 8:56 pm

Nice, gonna download it now

c88lman | March 29, 2010 at 10:08 pm

Guys, how many betas we need to install ? You promised new interface in January, Where is it ?

Francesco | March 29, 2010 at 10:44 pm

Hibernation button is disabled by default, editing gconf-editor is required. Personally I find it annoying!

Francesco | March 29, 2010 at 11:51 pm

The bundled version of mplayer is old and doesn’t have vaapi support, essential for hd video playback of 720p and 1080p, can it be updated?
keep up the good work!!!!!!

Adam | March 30, 2010 at 10:14 am

How to install in VirtualBox?

Cedric | March 30, 2010 at 12:01 pm

@Francesco: Hibernate is not available if you installed Jolicloud with Jolicloud Express or if there is not enough swap space.
By the way, 720p HD video works out-of-the-box with GMA 500, ION and Pine Trail netbooks. 1080p Full HD video works out-of-the-box with ION and Pine Trail netbooks.
Finally, we recommand to use VLC, available in our App Center ;)

@Adam: you can use the ISO and check Google for a tuto but we’ll provide an image shortly!

seb | March 30, 2010 at 1:42 pm

does HD video works with the broadcom crystal HD ?

pmarki | March 30, 2010 at 1:51 pm

Does anyone know if asus eeepc t91mt works out-of-the-box with multitouch or even singletouch?

MySchizoBuddy | March 30, 2010 at 2:52 pm

Torrent download link isn’t working

Zak | March 30, 2010 at 3:15 pm

@seb The Crystal HD accelerator is not yet supported

@pmaki This is a supported machine, but multitouch is not supported.

jeff mitch | March 30, 2010 at 6:02 pm

been running this for a good 2 months now, on a cobbled together desktop pc. with a 1280 x1024 res & dual core amd processor, with 2 gb memory .. it’s been rock solid from day 1 & has updated itself from pre- beta through to this, pre-release, without a hiccup… Well done you guys :) … fantastic job, just need a few more recent apps .. ( apt-get worked as it oughta, but some of the apps were a version or two outa date…. is about the only thing i could find to be even vaguely negative about ) all in all, BRILLIANT……. THANK YOU

Cedric | March 30, 2010 at 6:06 pm

@MySchizoBuddy: we have direct download now http://www.jolicloud.com/download#jolicloud-express

changturkey | March 31, 2010 at 1:37 am

So Jolicloud allows you to play 720p .mkvs no problem?

alia | March 31, 2010 at 5:59 am

just wondering, is it still based on ubuntu jaunty — if u upgraded to karmic, a reinstall would be necessary, wouldn’t it?

Cedric | March 31, 2010 at 11:48 am

Yes, we’re still based on Jaunty.

drew | March 31, 2010 at 12:41 pm

Any idea on a release date of the html5 launcher? I’m anxious to see that bad boy up close.

JoSe | March 31, 2010 at 4:50 pm

Updated yesterday through CLI.
Please advice how to play 720p and 1080p as these two resolutions are still unplayable even using offical JC’s VLC last version (1.0.2)
Tested on two different .mkv

JoSe | March 31, 2010 at 4:54 pm

Sorry, forgot to state my specs:
Asus 1005 PE with 2 Gb and CPU running at full throttle.

Zak | March 31, 2010 at 8:47 pm

@Drew No set date on that yet.

@JoSe These playback methods are not available for H.264 video. Make sure that ou’re not using that codec in your mkv files.

JoSe | March 31, 2010 at 9:11 pm

Hey Zack, what’s up ?
Is H264 video playback on the roadmap for Pinetrail platform ? Or is it impossible with this chipset ?

Francesco | March 31, 2010 at 10:26 pm

@Cedric. thanks for the answer, however i installed jolicloud from usb and I have enough swap space, in fact id activated manually i can hibernate and resume successfully, however upon the next full restart the button disappears again! (it’s in gconf apps power-manager, something like ‘can_hibernate’)

    David | July 28, 2010 at 7:23 am

My HP didn’t have Hibernate option originally when I first installed, but once I ran all the updates and moved to 1.0 it appeared in Power Options after a reboot.

Francesco | March 31, 2010 at 10:35 pm

p.s. I insist saying that mplayer compiled with vaapi (and smplayer for gui) is in my opinion essential, as it allows using the gma500 chipset for 1080p content playback with cpu in power-save mode (800mhz). I tested it with the pre-beta and was working great. VLC just relies on the cpu for decoding instead of using the video chipset power; this results in: choppy playback of 1080p, high battery consumption for all those disgraced by the gma500 chipset (ty intel/poulsbo!). Thanks ;)

Zak | April 1, 2010 at 12:31 pm

@JoSe

H.264 video will work up to 720p I believe. After testing out some .mkv files of my own at this resolution, I was able to get them to play back perfectly. But 1080p playback for this container may be too heavy for current netbook processors. I’m not sure about it right now.

Also @Francesco and JoSe

You can greatly improve performance in Mplayer by setting the Loop Filter to ‘Always Skip’. I couldn’t playback H.264 at 720p before I did this in Mplayer (I actually use SMplayer, but same deal)

FYI I’m using xv for video playback, works fine.

Tom | April 1, 2010 at 5:49 pm

So when’s the the “Final” version coming out? Pre-Final is still beta.

Tylor | April 2, 2010 at 10:40 am

I thought Nickel was to replace Prism in Pre-final. When I launch any web-applications, they still run in Prism.

This defeats the purpose of doing anything with Chrome, as you seem to have also optimized Firefox by fixing it’s biggest problem in previous releases: speed.

So: is it a problem with my install using Prism instead of Nickel?

Tylor | April 2, 2010 at 11:07 am

Nevermind. It uses Nickel, but says Prism in the download. This should be resolved, as it can cause confusion.

Zak | April 3, 2010 at 5:49 pm

@ Tom

No ETA on the final version yet. But the OS has been stable since the alpha release. The only reason they call it ‘pre-final’ or ‘beta’ is because the team hasn’t implemented as many features as they’d like yet.

@ Tylor

A new app center will be arriving soon that will most likely change this. But yes, both the Prism and Nickel web apps are installed when you click ‘install’ in the app directory.

dan | April 4, 2010 at 8:38 am

i somehow br0ke my installation on asuss eee 4g.

pls is there any direkt download of the iso cause sitting in 3world Indonesia (slow bandwith, internet cafes, etc) and need a direct non ftp, non torrent, ISO download, everything i tried via yr site /google etc timed out. any more mirror sites? kind of “save file under …” via HTTP ..

thank u very much awesome OS since the alpha release so far!

Jorge Manjarrez | April 6, 2010 at 7:22 pm

Hi. The distro is good and functionality in netbooks is nice. The only detail is change the default desktop, the NBremix is not practice and ugly. I know the tool to change to standar gnome desktop, include by default the option to select default desktop. Other situation is the future of the distro and the release schedule. What is your future plans about this distro and if you follow to ubuntu or change to debian? (some distros based in ubuntu decide to follow debian policy about releases and quality).

James | April 12, 2010 at 6:12 am

So you guys call alpha “pre-beta” and beta “pre-final.” What’s next, pre-release candidate? Pre-Just Download It Because There’s No Such Thing as Final in Software?

i need help the new html5 wont let me install apps

Dave Green | May 26, 2010 at 7:33 pm

Just bought a Zoostorm Freedom 10-270 shipped with Windows 7 Starter. Keen to replace this I couldn’t find a LINUX distro that supports the Ralink RT3090 wireless card using WPA2. Jolicloud worked straight out of the box and I can even turn the wireless card on and off via Fn -F2
Well done guys

    Cedric | May 27, 2010 at 4:15 pm

    Thank you for the praise!

Don’t hesitate to spread the word on Twitter and Facebook ;)
