Jolicloud

It’s coming - we will start upgrading existing users to Jolicloud 1.0 next week

July 9th, 2010 at 5:50 pm, by Jolicloud Team

Update: Jolicloud 1.0 is here!

Imagine an operating system centered around interacting with your friends. Imagine never having to worry about updates and software installs. Imagine that all your machines are automatically synchronized with one another. Imagine having your Internet ecosystem natively integrated to your machine, with all the coolest apps at your fingertips.

This dream is what kept us busy for just over a year, and now, we’re happy to announce the launch of Jolicloud 1.0.

Jolicloud Launcher

Here are some of the cool new features that you can look forward to:

A Simpler, Customizable Launcher Entirely Built in HTML5

  • Installing an app takes only one click, and removing it is just as easy.
  • Jolicloud comes with some of the best apps already pre-installed, including Gmail, Skype, Twitter, Firefox, and more.
  • It’s up to you to organize your apps the way you want - your launcher is customizable.
  • We take care of any app updates so that updating is easy, and that you always have the latest version of everything.

An Exhaustive App Center

  • Jolicloud has selected 700+ of the best free apps to install and share with your friends.

  • You’re not only kept up to date with what apps other Joliclouders like, but you can also see whatever updates your favorite apps release.
  • Any notifications from Jolicloud and other third-party apps are all centralized here.

A Universal File System

  • Because everything is in one place, it’s easy to manage your files and data, whether they’re on your machine or in the Cloud.
  • Jolicloud facilitates access to popular online storage services like box.net, Dropbox, and drop.io, with new services being added frequently.

Experience the Anywhere OS

  • You can install Jolicloud on as many devices as you’d like, and they will always be automatically synchronized. Any app you download, delete, or move around will be the same on all your other machines with no extra work on your part.
  • You can even manage your interface from the Cloud - if you don’t have your computer with you, log in on any HTML5 browser like Chrome to add, remove, or organize apps.
  • Moving from machine to machine has never been so easy.

Jolicloud Netbooks

So when is it available?

We will progressively roll out Jolicloud 1.0 to all users starting next week, but we’ll give priority to our founding members who have been here since the first Alpha release. You’ll be notified in your Update page when you have been selected to upgrade. Just follow the instructions and restart - making sure that you are connected to the Internet to activate your new Jolicloud.

On behalf of the Joliteam, I wish to thank you for your ongoing support. Join us in making our vision to change the computing industry for the better a reality.

This is excellent news Jolicloud! The HTML5 launcher looks great and I think I can speak for everyone in saying this is what we have been waiting for! No more Netbook Remix for us!

    Matthew | July 14, 2010 at 12:31 pm

    My sentiments exactly.

    Chuck | August 27, 2010 at 6:50 pm

HTML 5 Launcher is way too limited.. No Administration Apps easily accessed.. no categories for apps.

Acibeb | July 9, 2010 at 6:08 pm

YeY!
please tell me those gma500 problems will be sorted?

    Zak Kaufman | July 9, 2010 at 6:09 pm

GMA 500 should be working out of the box right now. Is it not working for you? What netbook do you have?

      riefflat | July 10, 2010 at 12:12 pm

Is it working on ARCHOS 9 (Z515 and GMA500) like eeepc T91 HW ?

      I’m enjoy a positive answer ;-)

I already use prefinal version on eeepc 4G, and very nice JOB

      congratulation whole team

      Acibeb | July 10, 2010 at 2:12 pm

I was talking about suspend/close screen not working and battery power options missing. The first one at least is due to gma chip, is it not?

Omar Lopez | July 9, 2010 at 6:29 pm

for Vaio P (510T)

fukid | July 9, 2010 at 6:31 pm

cool! finally it comes to 1.0!

gma500 works fine in my eeepct91.

Anwar "Luke" Rangkuti | July 9, 2010 at 6:44 pm

finally!! Kudos to the Jolicloud team :-)

Mustafa | July 9, 2010 at 6:46 pm

Coool! Even works on my old desktop pc very well

Sushi | July 9, 2010 at 6:53 pm

My Samsung N150 has some serious sound issues. There comes up that crazy sound like crackling, white noise and distortion without playing any music at all. I hope it will be fixed. And any chance for supporting the Fn-keys?

    Zak Kaufman | July 9, 2010 at 6:59 pm

New sound packages should show up in this release. I don’t think Fn keys have been implemented yet, but I may be mistaken.

Armel | July 9, 2010 at 7:10 pm

Jolicloud 1.0 will be suitable with macbooks?

    Zak Kaufman | July 9, 2010 at 7:14 pm

They’re not supported, but you’re welcome to try it out.

      franzz | July 13, 2010 at 1:12 pm

I am curretly using jolicloud on a macbook an it works perfectly ;)

    mojo | July 19, 2010 at 12:20 pm

I use jolicloud 0.9 on my macbook intel 1.gen. First gen white plastic macbook with intel process and gma 950 graphic, almost everything working.. ;) How ever you need do some tweaking and command. The only thing i can’t make it work is apple remote, and you do need use a mouse, trackpad is not precis, movement is kinda jumpy. I use logitech v470 bluetooth mouse, work perfectly with jolicloude.. for more info for your macbook you can find info i ubuntu doc, https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBook, look for your macbook hardware version and under that section “Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope)”

    Meg | August 5, 2010 at 8:37 pm

I use it on a first-gen Macbook (i.e. with the GMA 950 chip), too, and it works great.

marcosesperon | July 9, 2010 at 7:40 pm

Cool! Congratulations for the job ;)

Speedboy | July 9, 2010 at 7:42 pm

I’ve been using Jolycloud for 3-4 months now. It’s really fast and fun to use and now it looks like it’s gonna get that extra prettyness it deserves! Great job on such a great distro!

Arnaud ZIEBA | July 9, 2010 at 8:01 pm

That’s good news. Jolicloud has been evolving the right way and proven to be really stable on my machine. Plus the 3G connection just works seamlessly. All in all, a great OS for netbooks and mobile/nomad workers like me.

Excelente noticia para mi netbook acer d250

sameer chavan | July 10, 2010 at 2:19 am

we are excited. My samsung N110 works perfect with jolicloud.

Noel | July 10, 2010 at 2:50 am

First of all…snaps, claps and kudos to everyone at Jolicloud. You guys did a wonderful job with your (our) OS. I’ve been meaning to try Linux for a long time but never found a suitable one for my netbook until I discovered JC…the first ever Linux distro I ever installed. Now, I don’t even try anything else, quite happy with what I have now.

A question though: how long do you guys think it will take to get everyone upgraded? As I have been only using JC for the past three months or so I’m afraid I’m gonna be somewhere at the bottom of the “list”.

Congratulations to everyone at Jolicloud. Time to pop that champagne you’ve been keeping (I’m sure you have one. :P ).

    Zak Kaufman | July 10, 2010 at 3:03 am

No worries, it should be soon, regardless. More announcements will probably come later.

Vincenzzo | July 10, 2010 at 6:55 am

what happened to transmissionbt client? I had it installed then after an update it was gone.

    Zak Kaufman | July 10, 2010 at 8:02 am

You can fiz it via the terminal with ’sudo apt-get install transmission’

Trouveur | July 10, 2010 at 8:33 am

Do multitouch touchscreens will be supported ? That would be great for the T91MT.

Gabriel | July 10, 2010 at 10:42 am

It’s so nice that I want to use it in my desktop too! Hope the offline mode works as well…

pieRr0Ur | July 10, 2010 at 11:02 am

Exactly on my birthday week! Thank You!

epos85 | July 10, 2010 at 12:28 pm

I love Jolicloud. Its a lightweight good and stable distro. And its great to customize with packages from ’synaptic’ too, if you know what youre doing ;-) Who says its just a netbook os? Im jusing it on my Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Xi3650 18.4″ laptop! And ive recently installed Jolicloud on a old Asus 15″ laptop too.. The hardware support is greater than many other distros! :-D Thank you for making this great os!

    McSpuddles | July 26, 2010 at 1:10 am

I’m using it on my laptop too. It gives you acres of screen space!

helloct | July 10, 2010 at 2:25 pm

BIG THANKS, for this nice & cool OS.

People around me says my ubuntu netbook is nice. I’m don’t know what they say when they see this one.

macnux | July 10, 2010 at 3:09 pm

Thanks, tanks, thanks. Congratulations for this great job!!
Work on htc Shift X9500? Touchscreen, wifi, 3G?

    Zak Kaufman | July 10, 2010 at 8:12 pm

You can try the express version to see if it works, but I can’t guarantee it.

naos | July 10, 2010 at 6:29 pm

superb job finally an OS for netbook which I’m using quite a lot; well done to all the team; also from a tired asus 701 and also my new asus 1005

Dania | July 10, 2010 at 11:00 pm

I can’t wait to try it! I have never gotten much use out of my netbook until i installed jolicloud, not it is running better than ever before.

My only fear is it won’t be as good as what I am used to….nah won’t happen.

Congratulations and thanks to everyone who worked on this; I get the feeling your work will touch alot of people for years to come.

:)

Zachary | July 11, 2010 at 5:25 am

I’m so glad to hear that Jolicloud is releasing 1.0. Ever since they posted about it, I’ve been very anxious. It looks like a really good piece of software. I am also currently using Jolicloud as my default OS but along with Windows. I can’t wait until I get the update!

Cedric | July 11, 2010 at 4:58 pm

@riefflat : Archos 9 is not officially supported yet but you’re welcome to try.

@Acibeb : the suspend feature still needs some work on certain device.

    riefflat | July 11, 2010 at 8:58 pm

    of course, I will

Rizzly | July 11, 2010 at 8:22 pm

Will the Acer 1825PTx have support for touch from the getgo? If not, have you looked into it yet?

    Zak Kaufman | July 11, 2010 at 10:12 pm

The previous blog post is a list of supported touchscreens. You should check that out.

      Rizzly | July 12, 2010 at 12:44 pm

Ah, well the response to my comment in that post suggested (perhaps because of my own optimistical thinking) that it would be looked into and perhaps then make it in to the 1.0 release.

garo | July 12, 2010 at 12:05 pm

Great news ! is the battery autonomy better, on a eeepc 1001 px ? I like this OS very much, but the autonomy was a problem on my netbook…

Joan | July 12, 2010 at 2:39 pm

Amazing! Thxs a lot for this hard work Jolicloud team! And special for the new designers, it’s perfect!

Mark Amber | July 12, 2010 at 8:06 pm

How do I know for sure that I am a founding member, I am balloooza on jolicloud.

I am just wondering because I have used jolicloud for a long time, but I am unable to see the founding member thing

    Zak Kaufman | July 13, 2010 at 6:05 pm

It depends, did you use the original private alpha? You would have needed an invite.

      Mark Amber | July 15, 2010 at 1:59 am

Would that be an invite I requested, or one that I would get from somone, I requested one, and got it, but not immediatly.

when was the original alpha stage?

    Laurent | July 23, 2010 at 11:54 am

go to profile next to your name it is mentionned if you are…

Ivory Tusk | July 13, 2010 at 1:06 pm

Yes, yes, YES!

want!

I really love jolicloud and I’m extremely looking forward to the new start page. When will not-so-early adopters get the update?

can hardly wait.

    Zak Kaufman | July 13, 2010 at 6:05 pm

Definitely soon. We’ll have to wait and see.

David | July 13, 2010 at 5:36 pm

Any information on whether or not the footprint of the OS itself will be reduced or remain the same as the current version? I certainly hope my favorite OS doesn’t get bloated with age.

    Zak Kaufman | July 13, 2010 at 6:06 pm

It’s made for netbooks with small drives in mind, and bloat is pretty impossible when you’re using web apps. So no worries there.

      David | July 13, 2010 at 9:47 pm

Beautiful. Just want to make sure it doesn’t get any fatter than what the version is now. I’m drooling with anticipation… want that “Congratulations!” email soon!

Stefan Hansen | July 13, 2010 at 10:17 pm

I cannot wait. I’ve only been using Jolicloud for two weeks, and I am truly happy with it.

I bought a Dell Inspiron Mini, and replaced Windows with the Ubuntu Netbook Edition, the day I got it. I’ve been a dedicated Ubuntu user for some years, but Ubuntu didn’t recognize my display properly, so the resolution was low, and it seemed a little sluggish.

What to do? Try something else, of course. I searched around and came across Jolicloud. It looked promising, so I decided to give it a try. And lucky me. Everything - Wifi, the mobile network, sound, and high res display - worked just perfectly, right out of the box. And this wasn’t even version 1.0. I was impressed.

Now, two weeks later, I am still impressed - and truly exited about the coming release. As I said: I cannot wait!

Good work, Jolicloud Team!

Harri | July 14, 2010 at 8:28 am

Another T91MT owner here wondering if you have any intention to support multi touch in the future.

    Cedric | July 14, 2010 at 5:13 pm

    Of course, it’s under consideration.
Eee PC T91MT have touch screen support with 1.0 but no multi-touch support for now.

PnKllr | July 14, 2010 at 1:50 pm

Adams turn??

Keith | July 14, 2010 at 1:55 pm

Just wanted to ask, since you say everything will automatically sync:

Can I turn this off? Or select only certain devices to sync together. I have Jolicloud on multiple devices and each has a different category for how a use it. (work, home, play, travel, etc.) Can I set certain ones to sync with each other, or not at all?

    Cedric | July 14, 2010 at 5:11 pm

This feature is not available yet.

    Siobhan | July 23, 2010 at 5:56 am

Why not create a user for work and a user for home? that way you can have everything separate

florin | July 14, 2010 at 6:22 pm

when the new update 1.0 it’s available to all users?

    vadkuz | July 15, 2010 at 1:31 am

    +1

      Zak Kaufman | July 15, 2010 at 6:08 am

There’s no official set date yet. But soon.

Mark Amber | July 15, 2010 at 2:15 am

This is the most exciting linux community out there, and the software is not “groundbreaking” but since it is just right for the netbook, and the entire user base is netbook users, and since the interface is just stunning, somthing simple like good html/css and a good idea of what the os should be can go a long way.

And also it is important that the developers have a real connection to the users, and the social nature of netbooks, community, and frequent posts on many social media platforms make the perfect conditions for an amazing software community.

    Zak Kaufman | July 15, 2010 at 6:09 am

    Agreed, well said.

    Cedric | July 15, 2010 at 4:55 pm

We’re here and we’re listening to you ;)

Chris Parsons | July 15, 2010 at 7:03 am

I got a couple Dell Latitude 2110 netbooks with the Gobi 2000 3G card. I never did get it working with Ubuntu 9 or 10. Wireless isn’t working right now, hoping to figure that out, but if we can get the Gobi card working, the 2110 and Jolicloud is the platform I want to use for our remote users. Very much looking forward to getting 1.0 installed!! I’m a longtime Linux user. Jolicloud is the best of everything..thank you!!

    Cedric | July 15, 2010 at 4:53 pm

Actually, we’re not allowed to provide the Gobi firmware, try to contact them.

poyzk | July 15, 2010 at 8:44 am

I have a Aspire One 751h, it has a GMA500 graphic card. I tried the pre final release recently but cannot play 720p H.264 video smoothly. Will release 1.0 resolve the issue? Thanks.

    Cedric | July 15, 2010 at 4:51 pm

Try VLC and change the preferences (enable All settings) in Input / Codecs > Video codecs > x264: check ‘Skip loop filter’.

      Zak Kaufman | July 16, 2010 at 3:39 am

I actually used the one under the ffmpeg option instead of the x264 one, but either one of them might work.

Mark Amber | July 15, 2010 at 9:49 pm

I just looked through my old email and found the invitation to jolicloud from 09/09/2009

I am curious, would that mean that I was a “founding member”

    Zak Kaufman | July 16, 2010 at 3:37 am

    Yes it would.

    quello | July 16, 2010 at 11:06 am

the first alpha was out in June 2009…i was “joliclouded” since 7/17/09 and still no upgrade.

      Zak Kaufman | July 16, 2010 at 6:04 pm

No worries, everyone will get it.

Vinoth | July 16, 2010 at 2:49 am

Awesome news…Jolicloud is ideal OS for netbooks. waiting to see the 1.0 rollout.

Anonymous | July 16, 2010 at 4:18 am

Have they added dual finger scrolling or multitouch yet?

Fred | July 16, 2010 at 3:59 pm

A general idea as to when 1.0 will be widely available would be nice. New converts like myself I’m guessing will be way down on the list (and of course no one knows how long the list is !) As it stands I’m checking my email, Jolicloud update constantly. Nothing could be more frustrating then knowledge that we’re about to get something new/great/fun/exciting etc etc and yet have no idea if that arrival is today/tomorrow/next week or if indeed we’ll be waiting till Christmas. Meh the excitement will have lost it’s sweet smell by then I’d guess.

    Zak Kaufman | July 16, 2010 at 6:06 pm

All we have right now is ’soon’. We know everyone is excited.

Stefan Hansen | July 16, 2010 at 4:06 pm

Dear Jolicloud people,

Please give us all a specific release date.

Thanks,
Stefan

    Zak Kaufman | July 16, 2010 at 6:05 pm

It’s being rolled out, so there is no specific date. I guess you could say last Tuesday was the date?

Stefan Hansen | July 16, 2010 at 4:08 pm

By the way, I would like to write a review of version 1.0 on my website, Hansen’s MagNET, as soon as it’s released. :)

    Zak Kaufman | July 16, 2010 at 6:06 pm

    Sure, that’d be great!

Stefan Hansen | July 16, 2010 at 7:46 pm

Dear Zak,

Rolled out sounds strange in my ears, when we are talking about a piece of software. There is no production time, no painting, no assembly.

Does it mean that we newcomers to Jolicloud might have to wait days, weeks, months, years?

Once again, best of luck with this great project!

All the best,
Stefan

    Zak Kaufman | July 16, 2010 at 8:21 pm

It’s being rolled out for stability purposes. Better to be safe than sorry. Anyway, as far as I know, no one is going to be waiting months for the release. Everyone will have it very soon.

Aleksander | July 17, 2010 at 9:42 am

Me and my eeepc 4G joined jolicloud with the pre-final release. When should I get the upgrade?

jacopogio | July 17, 2010 at 11:36 am

after playing with it all day, @Jolicloud 1.0 full HTML5 is a SUPER NEAT WORKING OS for netbooks ! Easysimple and no more Beta. Well done!!

trade | July 17, 2010 at 5:45 pm

Been trying out different netbook releases on my S10-3t, and have been using Jolicloud for a few days now. I really like Jolicloud over the others i have tested. Can anyone confirm the touch screen working in 1.0 for S10-3t. Thanks and good work Jolicloud Team.

    Zak Kaufman | July 17, 2010 at 10:37 pm

Only partially, and it’s not fully supported yet. The driver for the Cando touch panel has been added (maybe not in 1.0, but with future updates), but it isn’t working fully yet. More news on it later.

      alex | July 21, 2010 at 5:49 am

Yeah it kinda works its like you can control the cursor with ur finger, but there is no multitouch and no onscreen keyboard. As soon as there is support for this in Joli I will go crazy and tell everyone I know about this OS.

jamie | July 17, 2010 at 8:21 pm

This has to be one of the easiest Linux distros I’ve ever used. I’ve been on Linux for 10 years now, the look and feel of Jolicloud blows the competition out of the water. Linux Mint for example, great distro but not keen on the artwork.

Works fine on my desktop computer. I really wish the Jolicloud team every success. You’ve made Linux accessible to the masses, even my Grandmother!!

Johnny K | July 18, 2010 at 12:14 am

Will Jolicloud 1.0 support touch on the HP TM2 laptop?

    Cedric | July 18, 2010 at 1:19 pm

You will be welcome to test it :)

      Johnny K | July 31, 2010 at 10:39 pm

Jolicloud unfortunately doesn’t even install on the HP TM2, I tried running it from a Jolicloud USB image created using the Jolicloud USB Creator and it brings up the language slection screen, then shows that it is starting up, then just goes to a blank screen, Harddrive or USB key stop showing any signs of activity :(

myusername | July 18, 2010 at 12:24 am

My username on Jolicloud is “myusername” and I’ve been using Jolicloud since August 14, 2009. Am I considered a “Founding Member”?

    Zak Kaufman | July 19, 2010 at 10:43 pm

Yes you are. You’ll get an upgrade soon.

Chris | July 18, 2010 at 2:20 am

I really like Jolicloud and have been using it for a few months now. I agree that it makes my netbook far more usable.

I have to say though, I’ve just updated to the 1.0 release and I really don’t much like the new interface. I can see that it might work well on a touch screen enabled device, but for a mouse driven netbook it’s a pain to use. I have about 12 pages of apps and I now can’t easily find anything… yes I know there is a search bar at the top of the screen, but that’s just annoying having to type things to find an app. So far, I much preferred the previous Netbook Remix style of UI, since at least I could categorise my apps so i know where they were.

I’m happy to be convinced that this new UI is a better idea, but so far I’m a bit underwhelmed. I also fail to see the point of having a product in beta all the way up until a final release (I was running the Robby Pre Release Candidate) and then find that it has a drastic UI change at release… to me, that defeats the whole point of having a beta program.

I’ll go back and play in the hope that it grows on me.

I can see how it might be a good UI if you don’t have too many apps… I think I just need to get rid of all the apps I don’t use much. But I can’t even find a way to do that… how DO you remove existing apps? It doesn’t seem intuitive to me.

Chris

    Chris | July 18, 2010 at 2:22 am

Oh, also, when I’m looking for an app, the search paradigm only helps if I actually know the name of what I need. Often I have no idea or can’t remember what the apps name is… not helpful!

    Cedric | July 18, 2010 at 1:17 pm

To remove an app, just open the contextual menu when you mouse over an app on your dashboard.

Hun | July 18, 2010 at 9:02 am

Hey there,

I have clicked “updates all” for the upgrade to 1.0. It has install and update. But after it finish update, it doesn’t ask for a restart. So i check again for update and it says i’m up to date and i restart manually.

After I restart, my jolicloud is still not 1.0 and update for 1.0 is gone. Any help on this matter?

    Cedric | July 18, 2010 at 1:15 pm

I think you didn’t read the bottom line “So when is it available?”

Ruslan | July 18, 2010 at 2:56 pm

Why I can’t update to 1.0 on my Acer 532h? I refreshed 500 times, but i don’t see the update!!!

    Ruslan | July 18, 2010 at 3:08 pm

The Fix doesn’t work for me!

      Cedric | July 19, 2010 at 5:16 pm

You’ll have the updates to upgrade to 1.0 when you have been selected.

caleb | July 18, 2010 at 3:11 pm

Hmm. I am a founding member and still have no update. Looks like I will just have to be patient and wait! Hopefully it gets pushed out to everyone soon.

I have 3 OS on my netbook, including Jolicloud of course, will i have to reinstall Jolicloud from scratch, or will the new Version 1.0 need to be installed as a new OS and therefore involve reinstalling all 3 OS’ again?

      Zak Kaufman | July 19, 2010 at 10:44 pm

Version 1.0 is an update, not a new OS.

You just have to perform a (large) update when you have been selected.

By meaning of cloud. . . the webapps won’t be stored on my system anymore? Or it’ll be in one machine?

    Cedric | July 19, 2010 at 5:14 pm

It’s on your machine and synchronized in the cloud.

Ruslan | July 19, 2010 at 8:58 am

Come on Jolicloud!!! We all will go on vacation without the update to 1.0 :((( Please work faster :d Thank you!

    Zak Kaufman | July 19, 2010 at 10:47 pm

Everyone will get an upgrade soon, please be patient.

benjie | July 19, 2010 at 9:41 am

hey joli team..where is my update…i been longing to update my jolicloud 10 days since…please…

Kaizer | July 19, 2010 at 12:55 pm

Hi I am looking forward to the 1.0 update. I really like jolicloud running on my Lenovo ideapad s10 but my wifi is botched and i have to be wired to a router line to browse the net. I hope the wifi works when i upgrade to 1.0!!
Pretty Please!!??

    Zak Kaufman | July 19, 2010 at 10:47 pm

Wifi should be working for this netbook. In fact, I have one and it works for me. Are you sure that you’re up to date?

Swamp | July 19, 2010 at 3:43 pm

I must say that i love the design of the interface, this is definitely one thing that will make this sell! :) There is just one big flaw in the design that makes it all fall.. the systemtray in the top right corner.. it looks horrible! The font of the clock, the battery and wifi icon, it looks like a mess and screws up all the design! You really need to fix this. (or add option to change these icons or hide them)
other than that it looks great!

zak | July 19, 2010 at 8:57 pm

Any chance for a jolicloud invite?

    Zak Kaufman | July 19, 2010 at 10:48 pm

Invites are no longer necessary. You can simply download it from the site and use it.

GordonWright | July 20, 2010 at 12:04 am

Webcam still not working for eeepc 701 in 1.0
Root seems to have taken control of plug in USB drive and removed user permissions. Probably no biggy but frustrating none the less when pre-release was so smooth to operate out of the box.

    Zak Kaufman | July 20, 2010 at 12:07 am

    Assisting via Twitter.

    Cédric Duclos | July 20, 2010 at 11:20 am

Yeah USB devices management will be polished shortly.

Rafdog | July 20, 2010 at 2:09 am

Looking forward to the upgrade to ver. 1.0! I recently installed the pre-final and was glad to see that all of the hardware works without having to enter the terminal and apt-get install stuff or sudo sh anything. With Meego I had to do a lot of compiling to get the wireless working and to be able to play different multimedia files. Good work jolicloud team!!!

Now please roll out the upgrade so I can have the most optimized for netbook OS! :-)

    Zak Kaufman | July 20, 2010 at 2:19 am

The upgrades are already being rolled out!

Darrin | July 20, 2010 at 2:40 am

Is there any ETA when it will be available to all users? I just heard about Jolicloud today and installed it on my netbook - really impressed with the out of box performance and I’m anxious about the upgrade. I’m unable to create an account at the moment though (server errors using facebook connect and traditional signup)

Congrats on the launch!

    Zak Kaufman | July 20, 2010 at 7:47 am

There’s no official ETA yet, but it should be soon.

    Cédric Duclos | July 20, 2010 at 11:15 am

Regarding your issue, if you used Facebook connect, try the regular method.

      Darrin | July 20, 2010 at 5:10 pm

I had tried both and then tried the regular option again a couple hours later and it worked. Thanks!

The only issue I am having is some audio popping/static (not specific to any particular program). I have a feeling this could be a configuration issue though, since this hasn’t happened on my Ubuntu install.

      On a HP Mini 311

Eric Church | July 20, 2010 at 3:08 am

So I am a new user to Jolicloud but cannont believe how amazing it is! and I am just on the .9 version. I was curious, did I possibly somehow miss the update? Or is it still being rolled out?

    Zak Kaufman | July 20, 2010 at 7:47 am

    It’s still being rolled out.

Dennis | July 20, 2010 at 7:37 am

Works fine on my Lenovo R61. But I have problems with my Atheros WLan Card. The connection isn´t stable and get lost all the time. Will it fixed in the 1.0 release?

bye

    Zak Kaufman | July 20, 2010 at 7:48 am

Looks like this is a laptop. Jolicloud is a netbook OS. Sorry.

      Omada | July 20, 2010 at 11:18 am

I have a unit from china with a Hannstar 10.2″ multi-touch screen. Is there support for this?

      Thanks

Oren | July 20, 2010 at 10:40 am

I have the “update available” icon in the OS for a couple of days now, but every time i try to log in and update i get the error message: “oops, our server is temporarily down…”
Since i don’t see any other complaints of the same nature, i assumed it may be either due to my location (i leave in Israel) or maybe i’m doing something wrong in the log in process (been trying to log in with FB connect).
Realy looking forward to the 1.0 version. If only i could get the update…

    Zak Kaufman | July 20, 2010 at 6:48 pm

Try pressing F5 on the update screen.

Evan | July 20, 2010 at 6:36 pm

why can’t you guys just give the update to everyone at once?

    Zak Kaufman | July 20, 2010 at 6:47 pm

For safety reasons, it’ll be rolled out.

      raymond | July 20, 2010 at 7:07 pm

but when is the exact date you are mentioning rollout?????we are hurrying……..please give us update into version 1.0…Make straight to the point!!!!! thats it my friend!!!!What date?

      Thanks Jolic Team

Zak Kaufman | July 20, 2010 at 7:12 pm

Raymond: There’s no official date yet. Please be patient with it.

Fab | July 20, 2010 at 8:08 pm

Now the only thing left is your mirrors to work. I am getting timeout errors when I am trying to download Jolicloud Express.

    Zak Kaufman | July 20, 2010 at 8:24 pm

I’m trying it now and I’m not getting any issues. Strange. Where are you located?

      Fab | July 20, 2010 at 9:27 pm

Vancouver, BC, Canada. Tried 2 different ISP’s and computers. After amny retries, it’s now cming in wth 70k/sec.

fred | July 21, 2010 at 12:10 am

So will Amarok work with 1.0…it doesn’t with the pre-release beta. I’d also like to see a clearer distinction between web apps and local apps and a clearer view of what’s installed rather then having to look thru the App Dir…..and can we see a clear privacy policy as it is Jolicloud collects a great deal of data

    Zak Kaufman | July 21, 2010 at 8:46 pm

    Sorry, Amarok won’t be included.

aznbatman | July 21, 2010 at 9:06 am

Hey!!! Just got the update and I love it. What a great interface. Your last blog post mentioned support for Fujitsu Serial Touchscreens. My update doesn’t support it yet, but will it still be in the near future?

    Zak Kaufman | July 21, 2010 at 8:46 pm

I suppose it’s possible, but I can’t say anything official about it.

Lennon | July 21, 2010 at 12:39 pm

i just install jolicloud prefinal today.
can i upgrade to version 1.0 with
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade?

    Zak Kaufman | July 21, 2010 at 8:47 pm

Only if you’ve been selected to upgrade. And you may have to do it twice.

Brett | July 21, 2010 at 2:43 pm

This is the best netbook OS I have ever tried, very well done developer guys n gals, a credit to you all, keep up the good work, seriously brilliant concept.

Olmo | July 21, 2010 at 6:20 pm

I honestly do not understand this policy upgrade. Discriminate against some people than others is quite far from the spirit “Linux.” It was not better to create a group “beta tester” and come out with version 1.0 the same day for everyone?

    Zak Kaufman | July 21, 2010 at 8:48 pm

It’s for stability reasons. Everyone will get the upgrade, so please be patient with it.

helloct | July 22, 2010 at 1:31 am

Hi,
Is it possible to download directly Jolicloud 1.0 right now (without having to upgrade) since i am selected for upgrade?

    Pytheas | July 22, 2010 at 7:29 am

I was wondering the same thing too… right now I am downloading the 1.0 version, since I got the mail last night! I am really pleased with Jolicloud and I am using it more and more everyday. Right now I am dual booting with Windows 7, but what if I decide to get rid of Windows 7 and install Jolicloud as my main (and only) operating system? Will there be a setup for the latest version in the near future?

Keep up the great work Jolicloud team!

      Zak Kaufman | July 23, 2010 at 12:33 pm

It’s not available yet, but it will be.

Ruslan | July 22, 2010 at 12:26 pm

Sry, but that sucks! I am leaving tonight for two weeks and I can’t get the upgrade! Now, I am using only this OS :( Thank you Jolicloud :(

    Zak Kaufman | July 23, 2010 at 12:34 pm

Sorry about that. But you will get one. Everyone will.

elias | July 23, 2010 at 1:40 am

My problem :
- wireless with wl or b43
- ethernet with sky2

    Zak Kaufman | July 23, 2010 at 12:35 pm

    On which netbook?

Laurent | July 23, 2010 at 12:03 pm

About the cloud, do you plan to have a virtual HDD available(as in icloud)? I think this is what is missing…apart from that it’s a great OS and I think it will make things difficult for Google and its OS.
Thanks very much to all of you the jolicloud team and keep the good work.

    Zak Kaufman | July 23, 2010 at 12:35 pm

You can set this up with ZumoDrive, I think.

Syd | July 24, 2010 at 12:15 am

Guys guys guys … what happened to the NOTEBOOK mode? I have updated my jolicloud to 1.0, but to be honest i dont like the interface … where are my installed applications like Picasa or Teamviewer?? I cant even find them … I also like the desktop interface of 0.9 where i have a full screen photo ….

dealer | July 26, 2010 at 10:31 pm

Kris | July 27, 2010 at 5:42 am

Can’t wait to get the update, I’ve been using Jolicloud for about a year or so now and I love it!

David Vasta | July 27, 2010 at 7:53 pm

Can I get a upgrade please?

Sebastian | July 27, 2010 at 11:46 pm

i read everywhere about the upgrade… but it seems that only a selected group can upgrade…
why can’t you just release it like everyone else…
it’ annoying to check the upgrade page more than 20times a day and only see the message that no upgrades are available.
i think i’m going to uninstall it and install an OS that’s available and finished…

    chan | July 28, 2010 at 1:45 pm

it seems like they want to make noise rather than giving us a peak to the software.

come on jolicloud team, we need a good software/OS as well as a respect from you guys, I use jolicloud since beta….

    give 1.0 to us now!!

opik | July 28, 2010 at 4:17 am

i’m not selected to upgrade to 1.0
why??????????????????

CYGO | July 28, 2010 at 11:10 am

I hop a new version will allo MS windows like chinese input method, and more support on chinese language
Great job done guy

blinkingline | July 28, 2010 at 3:48 pm

Is there any way to add some of the “legacy apps” to the main application screen? I end up using terminal a lot, as well as gedit for editing text files. I know i can drill down to find them, but i’d definitely prefer to have them on my home screen. (The same is true for a few apps that I run over WINE….in JC.09 I was able to directly link them to my desktop).

Otherwise, it seems that the “seamless-ness” of desk apps and webapps has kind of gone away.

    Jan Stedehouder | July 29, 2010 at 3:30 pm

I agree. I have quite a collection of legacy apps and it would be nice to have a better access to them.

Bob Brooks | July 29, 2010 at 9:35 pm

I have been using JC since early beta and am very happy and very few issues. Have used on desktop and MSI Wind NB. I am in Philippines and am using Smart GPRS USB dongle for my connection. I got lucky and discomered that it will work with the T-Mobile mobile brodband selection. The issue I have not solved yet is how to get network stats as the Smart Bro software will not work with JC, Windows only. As I wite this my dongle is on top of a twenty foot bamboo with a USB extender cable which I am using to aquire enough signal. I got up at 03:00 so I could get enough bandwidth to download 1.0 update but have little indication of how long I will take and what si happening. Internet here seems to be rather limited and generally in day time very slow.

I’m so glad to have been with Jolicloud since Alpha!

Sevesteen | July 31, 2010 at 4:53 am

Upgraded my Eee 900–upgrade got stuck near the end, could not do a clean shutdown, had to power cycle.

Rebooted into 1.0, but I do not like the results–many of my apps are gone, power management does not work, and Chromium is not saving settings. Is there a way I can re-install to see if this is the result of an incomplete install rather than Jolicloud evolving in a direction I don’t like?

Vikki Roemer | July 31, 2010 at 7:01 am

First off, just upgraded today and love it. Awesome job, everything works great (acer aspire one d250).

Just have 2 questions: is there a way (or going to be a way) to customize the program listing, and how can I find programs I’ve installed with apt? I want to be able to organize my apps (work, internet, education, etc., kinda like the old ui), and add my locally-installed programs in with the apps.

Thanks. :)

Stefan Hansen | August 1, 2010 at 1:41 pm

Yesterday I upgraded to Jolicloud 1.0. I had been looking forward to this like a seven year old boy.

I have written a little article with my first impressions on my blog, hoping that other Jolicloud fans - and the Jolicloud team - will read it.

You can find my thoughts on Jolicloud 1.0 here:

All the best,
Stefan

Please help me…before JC os was perfect or me!

I agree. I liked the way JC 0.9 worked. Now I don’t find anywhere to access Administration or the other apps.

Amazing Job, Guys!! I’ve been using Ubuntu for a long time, but, definitively, your work in the boot splash and GUI is elegant and beautyful, and the system is so easy to use that I felt in love instantly!! I’m using it right now!! Keep the good work!!

Running HP Pavilion dv7, no sound, wondering if there is a fix available. Everything else runs beautifully.

MIke | August 13, 2010 at 8:32 pm

Is there any chance that I could use this on my old tablet PC? It has the typical wacom-style touch screen which is no longer fashionable and very few linux distros actually support this mode.
Please say YES as it would be so useful to revive some of the millions of older tablet PC’s that are out there !
Thanks for all the great work!

Mike.

Everything is working!
There is not a single thing not working!

Please add Fujitsu Siemens Pi 1505 to the supported list.

hey, is anyone else having sound issues on a Hp mini 1035nr? I know it works because i hear it on the start up, then I turn it on and up once I hit the home screen and nothing. Oh and it works perfectly every time I reinstall the OS which has been five times. :p

fernandez | August 29, 2010 at 6:25 pm
