As much as I like jolicloud, I really don’t understand the need for a specific social stream. It would only be useful for someone who knows several other jolicloud users, and even then the ability to see what apps other people like is not really what I’d call a killer feature.
Something more interesting would be the direct integration of several other social tools into jolicloud, not as apps but directly in the launcher (something comparable to the facebook application on pip.io?).
The devices list makes little sens as well: jolicloud being a netbook-oriented os, most users will only install it on their netbook, and most people only have one netbook. Maybe it would make sense to be able to register non-jolicloud machines on this list?

I suppose you guys have plans to focus more on these aspects of jolicloud, now that the launcher is ready and all the users can upgrade. I sure hope you’ll come up with something impressive.

I think 1.0 is a good first step towards a netbook/tablet linux. More emphasis needs to be given towards integrating current social media sites into the feed. Also I was still having problems using 3g connectivity on my hp 311 mini. I know this is a known linux kernel issue with the hp 2400 adapter. I just hope its something that also gets attention in the future. All-in-all, a good push tho.

What du you mean by ‘ISO for the 1.0 are being finalized’? Can we expect it to arrive within one day?

I have another question: How do you want to earn money with Jolicliud? Will some apps cost money? It is OK to earn money, but is is only fair to tell people what might change in the future once they have migrated to Jolicloud.

Joli is unusable with ACER Netbook Timeline 1810 & UMTS/EDGE Stick, cause it needs about 16h download session. thats tooooooo much…

I hope that 1.0 will support tablet PCs natively. I tried the pre-release on an touch-screen only tablet PC and nothing worked. Granted it is an older tablet, but I’m tired of Windows XP Tablet Edition and would like to see a change.

I love the overall look and design of 1.0, but I find myself being somewhat less productive than with the previous desktop.

Is there a chance that a greater degree of customizability could be added? I would like to be able to better organize and more importantly Label each page of my apps.

Jolicloud is (for me at least) better than UNR. Here are my findings:

- It kept updating for sure once connected to the Internet. That’s good except I wish I had an option to change its setting to update at my own time. [Got power failure one time while the OS updating. Came out the HTML5 launcher gone. Everything functioning but the launcher was gone. Zak helped by providing this command to be entered in terminal (it's ctrl+f1 in case anyone wondering): sudo apt-get install jolicloud-desktop jolicloud-minimal jolicloud-standard]

- Seems like the native apps are somewhat outdated for most of them. Although I am aware of the company’s mission to support clouding computing, I do believe that I will be needed the native apps for my daily use as well even connected to the internet. So apps like Thunderbird, Firefox should be updated with the latest..perhaps using repo from ubuntuzilla? Besides, I have 14 different email address which I’m using daily and thunderbird kept the job easy.

- Launcher doesn’t seems to be customizable by user other than reposition the apps etc. I would like to see the ability to add third party apps (not supported by JC) be able to be added into the launcher.

- I’m currently using JC on top of Windows. Planning to expand the size of the diskspace but was told it is not possible. Would be nice if this can be done :)

- In folder tab, there is zumo, dropbox etc included. Rather than clicking access opening a new window, why not integrate it into JC like a explorer branch? So user can just browse files etc from that tab?

So far my experience with JC is really great. I tried Ubuntu before and honestly I like JC more just because of the nice UI.

So, bravo to the JC team and to Tariq for came up with this idea. BUT, like one of the user above said, we appreciate and understand the need to fund this project but hopefully you will be transparent by telling us what service will be a paid service and the cost of it.

I like Jolicloud’s new interface. I didn’t like the old because it seem too complicated or like you had to learn to use it. This one doesn’t feel like you have to learn to use. Everything is pretty intuitive.

Also good job on picking chrome. I assume you’re going to integrate chrome’s webstore with your own, too.

I have one big issue with Jolicloud. It doesn’t seem to manage memory very well when my RAM fills up. Whenever I have like 2-3 open webapps and 9 or so tabs in Chrome, Jolicloud freeze badly. It takes at least 2 minutes to recover, and sometimes it even freezes completely and I have to restart. I use an Eee PC 1000H.

I hope you can fix this one soon because it’s very annoying.

Another smaller issue I noticed, sometimes it doesn’t open some sites in chrome. It says it couldn’t find the site or something like that.

Anyway, keep it up. I think you have potential with Jolicloud, even after Chrome OS launches, mostly because your OS can be installed on any netbook, and chrome OS won’t be, unless they get huge momentum and manufacturers will prefer putting Chrome OS on new netbooks instead of Jolicloud.

Well, I generally love the system. Though the inability to run some apps directly from the HDD. Like the scheduling apps for instance – gantter or whatever – this is quite a drawback, cause if I want to check anything while ,being out and there’s no net connection then I’m fracked, to say the least. And it’s quite an important feature.
There’s a more serious glitch, though. I’m running JC on an EEE PC 900, and it tends to stop responding from time to time to any clicking or whatsoever. Some programmes just crash without giving a reason :) Like Evolution Mail – I was just composing quite important mails and well… they all went to hell. Maybe try adapting a more usr-friendly mail client (not another Thunderbird, PLEASE!) or I dunno. I’m just giving my opinion ;) still, everything’s on a good track. Keep up the good work!

I forgot to mention one suggestion.

Put a link for feedback where you can see it from anywhere you are in Jolicloud. Kind of like Microsoft did for Windows 7 beta. I think that helped them a lot because people mentioned later how MS actually listened to its users, etc.This got them more positive reviews later.

Love JC, but wish there was an app like Messenger to use here… Pidgin is ok if you are only using IMs and no video, need to use google talk to try the video, but here in Brasil , google talk is not available, how about emesene… is ubuntu friendly… and not all have SKYPE… also WINE is not loading… still all in all… JC is great for me… thx

Maybe useful for the development: in my computer does not work the “Suspend” and Hibernate” mode.
In both cases makes errors the Dell Mini 10 (HDMI).

Is there any reason why Flash support seems so incredibly bad so much of the time in this? While yes, it does handle a fair number of Youtube videos a lot nicer than Ubuntu has for me, I can’t make Pandora work AT ALL, and I’m lucky to get Last.fm to play two or three songs before suddenly it refuses to play anything beyond the stupid Dolby advertisements before stations load. And there are a bunch of Youtube videos that absolutely refuse to load.

First heard of Jolicloud today, and so far I’m liking it. Quick, easy access for my netbook and I think I’ll probably use it more than the Windows install. Keep it up Jolicloud dev team!

Love the distro…. Iv upgraded to 1.0 and looks nice and smooth. A minor problem seems to be with opening menu options for files and apps. When i right click it can take up to a minute for the menu to pop up even when i have no other apps running.
Also i wish there was built in support for itouch and iphone . All the apps that claim to do this have major issues and are unable to recognise the itouch. Also my 1TB hdd is unmountable in jolicloud which is a pain.
But love this OS and thankful you released it…. Keep up the good work guys and hope future updates will have fixes for these issues :)

Just interested to know what the difference between the ‘Paid for’ and ‘Free version’ will be when it comes to functionality?

Also realize that the pre (which I’m still on) was based on Jaunty. What is 1.0 based on? Lucid? I’ve had real problems with freeze ups on Ubuntu 9.10 and 10.04. This despite having a decent spec’d pc. Just doesn’t like something on my motherboard (strangely enough it’s the same on Windows 7… Freezes). This is the primary reason I used JC pre.

So as you can imagine I am reluctant to upgrade to 1.0 coz I don’t want the hassle of a reinstall and then setting everything up again.

Any advice appreciated.

Great work and a brilliant concept. Today my new netbook (Samsung N220) arrived and I installed Jolicloud immediately.

Works pretty good except for a few bugs from time to time. The only really severe problem is the brightness. Either it’s too dark or too bright, you can’t adjust it (even with the BIOS option). Neither the Fn keys are working nor is the manually added brightness adjustment in the panel.

With a quick fix for this issue it would be pretty perfect!

So, would it work on a Eee 701?

Getting the Jolicloud distribution of linux up and running was the most user friendly experience I’ve ever had with a computer. And considering I’m using a HP Mini 1030nr netbook, which caused quite a few problems with ubuntu netbook remix — it was nothing short of amazing. Wifi worked first time out of the box.

My only comment is that the options for which HP Mini did not contain the 1030nr — it only contained the 1000. Perhaps this covers it, but I was under the impression that there were some differences which caused some of the problems with ubuntu nr. You may want to add 1030nr to your HP Mini list of compatible computers.

Can anyone confirm that the Broadcom Crystal HD chip is supported? Is there any difference in installing ‘via windows’ or ‘installing via iso/usb’ as far as ‘out of the box support for this chip? How would i verify that this device is supported if i were to install myself?

I’m new to Jolicloud (I moved from Ubuntu 10.04) and here’s when I think:

- Very nice and clean interface, you guys did beautiful work on its design

- The fps drops by a crazy amount when either the mouse is highly active, scrolling or I’m typing fast and the fps can drops from 60 to 40-30. That’s just crazy and along with fps dropping, the sound skips. (I think that problem has been perceived as Jolicloud being a memory hog but my CPU never goes above 70% and RAM above 500mb).

– Some application integration would be awesome, things like integration with Nautilus, Totem (or other gstreamer video player) and Rhythmbox. Just pick the latest stable version, customize the source code (they’re all nicely integrated with Gnome) and make it flow! The indicator applet (default in Ubuntu 10.04 onwards) is a great example of application-OS integration, or at least the appearance of integration. If anyone could do that successfully it’d be you. Seriously, nice OS.

- Brilliant icon set, window border and GTK theme. Some of the best stuff I’ve seen on Linux.

- HTML5 has some amazing stuff and you guys are scratching the surface of what you can really do with it and I cannot wait to see what you do next.

Hi, Jolicloud does not install on the HP TM2 laptop. This is a shame since the TM2 is a touchscreen based laptop, with a Wacom display which is listed under the supported touchscreens for Jolicloud. I don’t recieve any errors while trying to install Jolicloud on the TM2, jolicloud attempts to boot after initializing, then just sits at a black screen, no mouse no nothing, does not recognize input at all, harddrive is aslo inactive at this point. I would really like to help get Jolicloud working on the HP TM2, what steps can I take, how can I help? Thanks.

Good work chaps! Dead impressed, got it running on my 8″ Sony vaio p series and it makes it a really usable little device. Fantastic!

Only thing I would say – would be great to have the ‘stream’ linked in with Facebook and Twitter (kind of like HTC’s friend stream).

The Jolicloud guys have released the final 1.0 version of their special netbook Linux distribution.

Joliclound claims to be other than regular Linux distributions. It uses a netbook screen size optimized user GUI and the GUI is mainly based on HTML5. …

How about if you could add jupiter (by Andrew Wyatt, aka fewt) for hardware control on netbooks?

Hate new jolicloud. Hate it. Was one of the first to try the beta. Loved it. Hate the automatic updates. Please give us old joli cloud back, or at least make it available.

Thank you for working hard now my netbook (msi x320) can use Jolicloud. But still have small problem when my netbook go to sleep mode everything freeze not respond. I must pass hold power button for turn off it.

I pressed upgrade and later restarted. Now “get started” icon doesn’t work – keeps “loading” forever – and I can’t un/install anything. What do I do?

How can I get Jolicloud to work with my external USB DVD burner? It recognizes it when attached, but does not recognize the blank disc I insert… while other computers do.

Really liking the new update. I’d like to know how you guys worked toward this layout. I really like the move toward uncluttering. I do miss the way tabs organized the apps and made it easier find apps not on the first page I’m on. But really the search bar, is a much faster interface. That’s definitely my favorite new feature.

Just one idea that might make it more agile and quick. I’d like it if when I switched focus to the Launcher the focus was on the search bar, so when I tap the home key, I can just start typing to select the app I want.

Excellent! Thanks to Jolicloud for making the FIRST Linux that actually functions fully on my HPmini 2133. It’s the sort with the really off-the-wall wifi card they soon changed for the later 2133s, the one that that struggled to work even on the original SLED installation, and never worked right on anything else (forever dropping out). I installed Jolicloud yesterday, after trying 6 other distros in the past year and wiping them in disgust. Even the 3D acceleration works (never has before).

I am hardly in your target group (I’m 66 years old and as boring as ….) but I’m a fan. For sure. At last I can wipe the hideous SLED and use the space it’s taking up.

Jolicloud team: try and put Chromium 6.0 on it as soon as possible. I’ve been having some issues with Chrome 5.0 stable version – After 10 or so tabs my computer became very slow. I thought it was Windows 7′s fault, but now I have Chrome 6 beta and I can have even 20 tabs open without a loss in performance.

once i format my laptop and reinstall the jolicloud, the apps doesn’t works any more..

-all my downloaded/installed program is looks allrigt, but if i want to sart any of them, nothing happening.
-then my jolicloud start the synch.. when is done the icons looks grey and i unable to use them.

since the upgrade dont like the feel of it. no flexibility at all on how i have my desktop now. has to be the html5 way.
used to like the way it used to run before.

My Aspire One keeps attempting to sync the same programs repeatedly. One of the apps is the Chromium browser, which means that it spends most of its time greyed out.

Good JOB! i was going to put the remix and i found jolicloud. it works better than any linux distro i ever worked with.
I had windows 7 on my netbook(hp 1030nr) and it was a dream, but i had a problem with the webcam. Does jolicloud have a app that will work with my netbook’s webcam? Everything else works except i have battery life issues. In windows 7 in power saving mode i could get 2 and half hours of life on the battery(three cell) now i get 45mins if im lucky with Jolicloud, how do i adjust the cpu to use less power in Jolicloud?

I can’t log in anymore. It keeps asking me to log into my Jolicloud and when I do, it says it’s not authorized. This is really nice, I can’t use it at all.

Weird, I can long in from other computers. I can’t even create a new account! Do I just reinstall it? It’s totally useless now, I can enter my computer’s login so I can not be able to log into my jolicloud account.

iplayer is playing up for me. get the loading wheel after its played for a while, then sound is doubled/repeated. Hitting pause the sound continues but vid stops.

I loved Jolicloud…for a while. Now I’m having problems with the wireless dropping constantly. I’m commenting from the Windows side of my netbook because Jolicloud will not keep my wireless connection. Any thoughts?

I came across this whilst looking for a linux distro for my Mum. I was looking for something simple, easy to use and configure and maintain (possibly similar to UNR).

I have to say this is awesome. Not done a full install yet but booting off usb and I seroiusly like this. Sod my Mum, I’m gonna put this on my machine.

I really do love JC but the new launcher not customizable at all In can’t see my desktop anymore and is kinda annoying and also the fact that all the apps not added through JC not appearing in it not nice ether but I do love JC and i’ve used sever OS.

I just got jolicloud 1.0 on my sony vaio p and it works really fine.
There is only two points I would like to improve.
1) I only can use a low screen resolutio about 1024×680 and the sony vaio p is capable to reach 1600×840. What can I do?
2) I need dropbox local not only on the cloud to work if I have not internet connection. Is that possible and How can I handle that?

I guess I agree with various previous posts, that v1.0 looks great, but that the some of the functionality (particularly the launcher) is a step backwards from v0.9. But I really appreciate that it just works (and works well) on my ancient (well, 2 years old) Acer Aspire One-110 (0.5Gb RAM, 8Gb SSD).

Here’s what I would really like:
1. Integration of non-JC applications (text editors and the like) into the launcher; the menu-key route is pretty clunky.
2. User-customizable launcher, so the user can impose a hierarchy of pages. I.e. a bit like the launcher in v0.9, but with the user determining the categories and which applications are placed where. (This after all is analogous to how we all construct our personalized file hierarchies, mail folders, photo libraries, etc.)
3. Ability to put an icon for an individual file in the launcher, so that a file currently being worked on can be made instantly accessible, without trawling through the filing system via a file browser every time the system is booted.
So it’s actually quite a short list…

I can’t get the torrent working to download this. All I get is connecting to peers. I would really like this on my netbook, but can’t get it. Help please?

iplayer is doing it again. The vid pauses and the wheel thing spins, the sound continues, when the vid picture is ready to continue it starts to play from that point with sound plus the sound that carried on. using wifi :-(

I finally installed back the Joli Prebeta version. This one is the best OS for my Asus 1201ha Eeepc.
I have tried the following OS’s:
-Ubuntu Netbook, Remix, Karmic, 10.04, etc
- Linux Mint
- Easy Peasy
- Mandriva
- Eeebuntu (all versions)
And I definitely stay with Jolicloud. I’ve always had problems with poulsbo driver for my damn GMA500 Intel chipset or my Atheros sound card. Running Jolicloud ev’rything works!
But I prefer prebeta version. Beta one slows down my computer. I still don’t know why and I also prefer to have the option of the desktop switcher. Even the launcher was more intuitive in the prebeta version from my point of view.

I just installed Jolicloud 1.0 on my Dell Inspiron 530s, everything is working fine and very fast.Im impressed but for one thing , I have no sound…Anyone have a fix for this?

I just instaled Joli on my Eeepc 105HA, and its work almost perfectly, good job guys. Indeed need some bug fixed, like the synchronization, when i install new apps i make the sync but isnt work… need some reboots
Another point is the hotkey only brightness works… the others(sound, wi-fi, sleep ..) didnt.

Please if you could fix this =)

I really like the way that Joli runs on my dell xt2 tablet. OpenOffice opens faster than notepad does on the other partition (windows 7). Would like to be able to use touchscreen without the pen (hate the pen, sorry dell). Apps just run fast, and clean. Chrome has a few bugs, but has same bugs on all OS’s. If I could get the touch screen, and screen rotation working, I’d be on jolicloud 9! I’m a long time linux user, done neat things with LAMP stacks, and currently maintain about 800 computers for a school district, would love to run Joli in a lab full of computers, or with no machine, or thin clients or such.

Hi i’m Dimitris,i’ve made Jolicloud installer an ISO cd,and use it with my external cd drive using it as usb,i don’t know if that is the problem,but the installation are not stable,plus i don’t have administrator privileges.What do you suggest?Do you have other version of Jolicloud with more privileges?

Why no google chrome? Chromium isn’t recognized by some online apps and makes it a pain.

Still think the way apps are organized is weird and hard to navigate.

Also, there aren’t a lot of apps that take advantage of local content – here I can “add simplenote” but it’s just a glorified web page.

Simplenote on a mac or on windows via ResophNotes or Terminal Velocity provides me with a native sync into the online app – that’s power.

Lastly, what is the point of showing that i need to updated if I don’t know what’s being updated? Why ask me at all?

I really love Jollycloud! Version 1.0 it’s great. Adding two major improvements could be perfect.

1) Add Inkscape to the app list.
2) Let users add custom apps to the main app menu.

I hope you can add this improvements on future versions.

Hi to all JC user and Devs!!

I am writing back the second time. I reported yesterday some problem with JC V1.0. I have an old Laptop (toshiba satellite A100) and i have in this computer Win Vista 32 Bit installed and runs very smooth and even faster then XP home version before. My main questions are the following:

1- Is this normal that JC is not able to access gmail account? When i launch Chromium browser or the gmail icon.. it says i’m logged in but nothing is showing up. And even when I choose to use the Basic html.. Nada
So i believe there is an issue somewhere. Because even in Chromium, when i type Yahoo.com .. it’s taking time to load and some other site like reaperaudio.com when i go there read a thread and back the page kinda diappear.

2- Is it normal that on the taskbar I always see the ” kind of Orange connection icon ” appearing every now and then connecting and disconnectin?

And the Os is running a bit slower in my machine. I can definitely say that Win 7 is running way way faster and more stable then JC under my system. Ain’;t complaining because maybe JC ain’t that fully compatible with the specs of my system but I though I would share my experience because I wanted to try it out and see if it could be lighter and run well especiall regarding Web Software but ain;t the case yet!

Me here again, here is the kind of “error” messaged when i’m surfing on the net at different adresses and the worst that surprises me the most that should be well integrated because it’s the main idea behind this Cloud OS, the integrated site such as “twitter” are giving this error. Is this normal? Is there something I should install?

Here is the Error msg:

Just installed 1.1 on my netbook and think I like it!

I have an Acer 100 with 8Gb SSD which XP outgrew so I had to do something! I tried Ubuntu 10.10 netbook but did not like it at all, 10.04 was ok but it’s not very user friendly so I started looking for an alternative and came across Jolicloud and as it seemed different and especially suitable for a netbook I thought I would try it.

So far only two small criticisms, or maybe ‘how do I’:-

(1) Change the USB icons for SSD cards which are not USB and having the wrong icon on my desktop really bugs me, even though it seems petty;

(2) Why can’t the two top and unsightly tool/task bars drop down when I move my cursor onto them instead of taking up space (and spoiling) the screen? Personally I can see no requirement to take up space on any computer screen with fixed tool/task bars, I like the pop-up Windows Task bar idea which has been around for years and I think it should be standard so leaving the screen nice and crisp and clean.

I installed JC on my 10 year old Dell laptop, and it works great. Only one issue. Is there any way to stop the screen from going to sleep so often? It’s constantly blacking out when I’m watching videos or playing on-line games. Is there a way to change the sleep timing?

I upgraded to Jolicloud 1.1 hoping for google talk to function properly. It did work the first two days and now when trying to use it, I’m asked to download plugin however even when downloading it again and going through the re-installation. Still does not work. Anyone help!

I would like to know how to get my cd/dvd drive to work, when I put a cd or dvd in it it sounds like its reading it but nothing pops up like other operating system do and along with that is I’d like to know what programs I can get on burning cd’s and dvd’s and step by step directions on how to do everything. Also my headphone jack on the front of my computer doesn’t work but it may be my computer I’m not sure so any suggestions on that would be helpful, my desktop is a dell dimension 4700 in case that helps, other than these problems I’m enjoying the JC OS thanks much.
