They made a TON of mistakes in the video. Jolicloud does have somewhat of an OS. Also, Jolicloud is run on Chromium, not Firefox.
“Wow! That is exactly what I need for my miniture Asus Eee netbook pc with litlle ssd-memory,” I thought.
I tried installing Jolicloud OS next to Win XP. After downloading foor one-and-half hour and follwing the scant instructions, there was an error message and the installation stopped.
After that I tried to install Jolicloud to a 2 GB USB stick that I ormatted as FAT32. At some point I was instructed to unpack a zip-file. That failed, because I was asked for a watchword that I had never made and used.
It’s stupid, I know, but I stll want (something like) Jolicloud OS. Or should I wait for Chrome OS?

When I try to create the USB Boot disk using Joli USB maker, It could not detect my NTFS formatted USB disk.
I formatted the USB stick using HP USB utility to FAT 32
and Joli reconized it without a problem.

Good for you guys, I think between your work on hardware and usability, you’ve made some great strides toward bringing linux to beginner users. Jolicloud is the distro that I always recommend to beginner level users.
I have two constructive pieces of feedback:
1)the reason that I don’t recommend Jolicloud to intermediate and advanced users is that many of the features of linux, gnome and ubuntu are hidden away to the extent that you really have to dig to figure out where they are, and that’s assuming that you know they’re there. Even after digging, it’s not possible to seamlessly integrate those features into the ui, or customize the ui (because everything is locked down in gconf). I recognize that this may be a design decision, to make the distro idiot-proof…but I’m just pointing out that the trade-off is that it actually makes the linux learning curve harder for intermediate computer users.
2)Assuming that the plan is to continue to make jolicloud difficult to customize, why not use a lighter weight window manager? You could achieve a very similar ui with tint-2 and openbox, with the same html overlay, and consume much less resources. You may even consider making a beginner/light version using those and an intermediate version that uses gnome but isn’t locked down to make it uncustomizable. That way new users could use the light version and experience superior performance. Intermediate users could use the gnome version and experience the customizability of gnome, and advanced users could go back to the light version and customize it with the text files…
Just some suggestions to open your distro to more markets…then again there’s something to be said for letting crunch-bang linux do their thing well, while focusing on taking market-share from windows.

Ok so the guy got paid to basically re-use the com of Chrome OS. Broadband kicks butts in Europe … haha … this French developer invented it 4 years ago haha … then the rest is all Chrome OS … which Jolicloud was not until recently … LOL. Sorry too many inaccuracies and bullshit. The guy got paid!
