I strongly recommend looking at Wuala.com for cloud storage. They are the only one I know of with secure, encrypted storage, plus they work on Linux, Mac, and Win!

Hi, this looks amazing, but it says “click here to update your system” I click it and it does nothing, some of the aspects have changed though, and yes I have tried a reboot to see if that helps!

Will Joli OS install over my existing JC, or will this require a rebuild? I have a low-power ASUS netbook that I GLADLY removed Win XP from and have been thrilled with JC, runs like a high-power laptop with JC.

Installed the Joli OS on an old HP Pavillion desktop and it was definitely more responsive than it was using Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat. I would definitely like to see SugarSync added as one of the cloud sync options.

To all 1.1 users, we pushed the upgrade path to 1.2 but it needs some time to be replicated on our mirros. You should get it any time soon :)

Clicking on the ‘click here to update your system’ message on my launcher just brings me to my updates page, but when I click ‘check for updates’ it just tells me that ‘your system is synchronized’. Do I have to uninstall Jolicloud 1.1 and reinstall 1.2?

OK, I”m very happy with 1.1 on my netbook, and will likely upgrade. But trimming the top 1/4 inch from the top of chrome is hardly an app, is it? Aren’t we just bookmarking from the desktop?

Only problem I have is it keeps saying my flash isn’t up to date on all the sites that use flash.

It isn’t working as such; the boot screen still says “Jolicloud 1.1″ instead of “Joli 1.2″.

Mine also says Jolicloud 1.1 on boodup. Also many icons are grayed out, and the power down screen’s icons don’t work. The Restore utility won’t start, and Alt-F1 won’t launch a screen editor. Incomplete update?

This is the best OS for laptops! At this moment, I’m upgrading my Asus Eee PC 1008P KR (in my office)… =)

Mine is now done, came up with 337 updates not the 182 as previously mentioned. Also my wifi connection kept dropping during the update and asking for router password. checked and all was correct and working… Asus eeepc 1001-HA just so you know.

Just upgraded from 1.1.1 to JoliOS 1.2. Huge performance increase on my old Latitude X200 – huge! Love the interface, you guys rock! I don’t even go on my Mac any more. Fan for life!

One issue though, I keep getting a warning in chromium thay flashplayer is out of date.
Tried to reinstall flashplugin-installer and flashplugin-nonfree, but i get an error that it can’t be reinstalled because the package is not available.

Hi, upgraded to 1.2 and everything seemed to be working fine. However, I’m now unable to access local apps (Chromium, Writer, Calibre, Transmission etc. are all greyed out) and I also don’t seem to be able to access the file manager. When I click the icon all I get is a link to Dropbox and nothing else. Any ideas?

Hi, I’ve upgraded my Nokia Booklet 3G to Joli OS. When the upgrade was complete, I tried to restart the system, but it does not boot properly. It just has been staying on booting window with Joli OS sign there like for hours and actually never booted. What could be the problem?

Also, the shut down button doesn’t work. I have to press the computer’s power switch to bring up the Linux shut down menu.

While I see some improvements, the new file browser seems poorly implemented.

I was trying to go through a heavily-populated folder (music) in my Windows directory, and the file browser crashed three times. Clicking a music file does nothing for ten seconds until finally opening a preview.

Unfortunately, I would prefer to just be able to right-click and get a menu with the “preview-open-open in folder” options, as I’m finding the current set up to be counterintuitive. And why can’t defaults be set? It would be nice to be able to click a mp3 file in the file browser and have it launch banshee by default, but I don’t see how this can be done.

Currently, I have to click the file, wait for the preview to open, and then click open again to actually open the file. The problem here is that with music files, Banshee opens in 1/4 the time the preview does. Why bother previewing?

Other than that, it looks a bit nicer. The lack of real settings is a little disappointing, and I get zero graphics options, even though I’m running this on a desktop which is well-equipped. It’s painful to minimize an app and see that shaky black box fly into the corner as opposed to a ghostly minimizing effect.

The most perplexing thing to me is why I’m limited to two rows of apps per page when there is space for a full third. It would make sense if the space allowed for a mouse gesture which let you switch pages (e.g. clicking and dragging right to left would move to the next page).

After restart now I cannot login anymore. After putting in my username and pw it goes black screen or goes back to the login screen.

How do I access my files? ctrl+shift+F10 has no effect.

Tried Joli OS on a Viliv N5. Doesn’t work. No mouse, no WiFi, no WWAN and touchscreen doesn’t work.

I think the file browser is cool in general, but it’s a little bit weird that you can’t do things like “move” or “delete” using the new file browser–especially w/ the dropbox now “a part of the system” it’s hard to navigate and make changes to the embedded folders w/in my dropbox. That’s one feature I’d really like to get in there somehow! I like what you are doing though– thanks!!!

The HTML5 web app for Safari 5 simply crash, clicking on the next page(dot) in the launcher would freeze the browser, changing the wallpaper would also freeze the browser, almost all of the other features work flawlessly

another thing, whenever typing in the search bar, the “x” button would appear at the top of the search icon, is this normal?

IT looks great, but I can’t use it, because i can’t copy/move/delete files over the integrated file browser. There is also no way to delete files in my dropbox. (No Link, no button, nothing…) I can only read files in my dropbox and the native dropbox clinet doesn’t work.

Why were my comments left yesterday removed? Others are also having the same upgrade issue. It hung at boot for hours, kernel issue. Now resolved.

I’m sorry, but I’m not particularly tech-savvy – how do I update my configuration? The only problem that I have encountered is that the dropbox client doesn’t work, meaning that I can only access dropbox as a cloud service rather than storing the files locally.

Hi, Just updated to jolicloud 1.2 and I am having some problems. After update I rebooted and have come across a “kernel panic error – unable to mount root fs on unknown block” also the caps lock light keeps blinking…

A solution to the Flash Problem is Found.

Download the install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz, from adobe.

Then Extract File, I found that Jolicloud will not let me extract and overwrite the file in

/usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so

Once Extracted open a terminal.
Alt-F1 and then change to root superuser Sudo -S

Then goto
/usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so
and remove libflashplayer.so

rm libflashplayer.so

Then copy the extracted libflashplayer.so to
/usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so

example
“cp /home/mistafied/Downloads/libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so”

Close Chrome and Restart. Now Chrome did a second restart, and it looked like the Jolicloud Dashboard updated or something, but when a ran Chrome again. The Out of date message is Gone.

I really like the badge thing! It would be fun to have some kind of an trophy-system like steam where you get badges for achievements. “collector”= install jolicloud on more than 5 pcs, “fruit farmer” = run joliOs on a mac, “craftsman” = make your first app, “messy” = have more than 10 apps installed which you never use…. and so on ;)

Jolicloud will not boot, if I press escape to go into the command mode instead of the splash screen it freezes at:

Everything looks good. However, it’s still not usable since two-finger scrolling doesn’t work on nc10. Uninstall once again. Hopefuly you will get this fixed some day.

How do you get rid of chromium Browser and replace it with opera ?Also how can you install Rhythmbox and Gparted ?

Don’t get me wrong the update is outstanding, but the guest mode is a little disappointing. As a guest who is not using Joli OS or Jolicloud I don’t want to sign in somewhere. A guest should be able to choose:

a)to simply browse the internet – without local Data & any other Apps than the browser
b)to sign in with a Jolicloud Account

I definitely don’t upgrade to 1.2… after reading this page.. too much risks. I have a lot of multimedia software and documents in my jolicloud 1.1 netbook that I don’t want to lose, eventhough I have backed them up in my external hard drive.

Is anyone else having any problems with jolicloud 1.2 not waking from sleep? Don’t know if this the right place for a post like this but this problem is bumming me out.

Last update made my Asus 1005PE unusable. Can boot but cannot access my files nor installed programs, icons are grayed out.
F5 and ctrl+shift+F10 do nothing.

My upgrade went without a hitch, fortunately =)

I have two recommendations for the Jolicloud team for future upgrades:

1)Make some kind of prompt appear to let people know that they should be “plugged in” instead of simply on a battery for laptop/netbook upgrades. I knew from experience the horrors that can follow upgrading while on battery-power, so I knew to do this in advance. Others might not be so lucky, and that could have caused some of these problems above.

2) A little more transparency of what is going on during the upgrade process would be nice. The way the progress bar fills is inadequate–since its seemingly showing the upgrade of each component, it is impossible to tell if the upgrade is actually “done”. Having a small window where you can see (SEE, not interact, just SEE) synaptic (I’m assuming its synaptic doing this, yes?) making the changes would be a HUGE boon.

I say this because I had no real idea if the upgrade was still running or it was finished while the upgrade was occurring. I think the NetworkManager got updated and it kicked off my wireless, which removed the “syncing” bar, so I wasn’t sure if I needed to restart or what…turns out I made the right choice by just walking away and letting it run awhile longer (even though it appeared to not be doing something, it actually was upgrading still).

So, yeah
1) Warning prompt to plug into wall outlet during upgrade
2) Transparent upgrade, so you can tell what is being changed when it is being changed. LMDE does this nicely–it just opens a non-interactable terminal window that shows what is going on.

Using 1.2 fresh install on Mini 10 for past 2 days. Overall, performance has decreased a lot. Boot times are very slow, launching applications slow, shut downs slow and usually hang. Hope you guys resolve.

I just did a fresh install of 1.2 (wiped my drive — no dual boot). My desktop won’t sync.

All of my apps show up but they are dimmed. It says “Sync Ready,” and when I press Start a progress bar comes up, but when it finishes it still says “Sync Ready” with the same number of apps available.

Any suggestion?

I also had a failure with a Nokia Booklet 3G through the update. It hangs on the intro screen Joli OS 1.2 screen and never boots. Very frustrating! My netbook is usless at the moment.

Is it normal that when i’m offline i have no more launcher, it wasn’t like that in 1.1, so i guess not, but still …here i am looking at an empty green screen..vey very very VERY useless os this way (and yes i know about the menu button to launch programs without the launcher, but when you’re showing off your launcher, make sure the damn thing works, ALWAYS)

Why does Boxee 1.2 no longer work as it did in 1.1.1? I do not have the choice to load as I did before and the icon is grayed out. I am using the try mode booting from a usb key. Anyone have a solution?

Great work!!! I’m really enjoying the new Joli OS 1.2. Instant App Creation Wizard is the feature I was waiting more since 1.1. My father which never used a computer before, uses Joli OS without problems so far, great job!!!
I wish the next version will upgrade also the Intel video driver.

I have downloaded the OS, although I have one problem, clicking “Change” button wouldn’t do anything(im in the installation process) and yeah, I have unzipped everything thru 7-zip, because double clicking it would unpack it at C:drive, which is full(only about 500Mb left) can someone help? Joli 1.2 takes over 30% longer to boot up than 1.1 did on my machine. That’s not good. Speed is the key for me.

BTW: I reported earlier that my apps wouldn’t sync after a fresh install of 1.2. Almost all of them have synced now, but I still can’t get Skype to sync after two days of trying.

After re-reading this post, it is rather confusing that you release Jolicloud Desktop and Joli O.S. Why don’t we just simplify thing like when you release Jolicloud 1.1. ? It would be simpler and better if you just announce ‘we release Joli O.S.’ instead of ‘Jolicloud Desktop and Joli O.S.’

As almost everyday I see people keep having problem upgrading to 1.2, I hope in the future Jolicloud team will include option/support to downgrade to the previous release. So, when you release 1.3, there should be an option to ‘Undo’ or ‘Rollback’ or ‘downgrade’ to version 1.2. If you can do this for people who want to downgrade from 1.2 to 1.1, that would be very helpful.

Exactly the same problem as robi here: no flash entry in the about:plugins of Chromium. I manually copied the libflashplayer.so library but without any success.
I also tried several time the Joli Cloud Restore utility, but it does not change anything.

Finally got my Jolicloud back. !
After not using it during ver 1.1
I never thought i would be collecting all the releases since Pre-Jolicloud 1.0
Issue with updates and the Nvidia drivers had been fixed on my more than 10 year old Big Blue Box…

I have not any netbook, so can’t check it, but I have download joli and tried in VM. Really fine and attractive design. Good work. Thanks for everything. By the way I don’t like desktop iconing style, though ubuntu unity and other netbook related OS use this. I always like to keep desktop clean.

Since last Friday that my 1.1 system still shows ‘click here to update your system’. Then, in the update page it just says that ‘your system is synchronized’.

There has been some cases like this one mentioned before, and suggestions have been made to wait for the 1.2 update to be populated throughout the mirrors.

However, something else must be going on since I’m sure that spreding should already have happened by now.

flash doesn’t work after the update. tried updating, but nothing works. how do i go back to 1.1? this suxs

There really needs to be a way to search for apps without having to go back to the dash board. The panel at the top of the screen should have a dedicated search bar, it would be WAYYYY more seamless.

Brilliant. I just bought a used Asus 1015 off of craigslist and did the full Joli OS install. I have been now using it run my new media PR company. The entire company is run on Joli OS. Thank you so much fellas. Keep the updates coming.

I’ve lost functionality in my two browsers… Chrome and Firefox…. in that they are half the width they used to be and there is no minimise or restore button available on firefox but there is on chrome but they don’t work. Is this a bug? is there a fix? it only seems to have happened since upgrading my system, Grrrrr

Yesterday, I opened my notebook that had jolicloud installed, I got the option to update (186 updates I think) and also a link to sync. I clicked on sync first and after that, I think my notebook is running on cloud 1.2 not the native notebook os. I get the jolicloud 1.1 startup screen, but I can’t access chrome, firefox and other locally installed apps. Ctrl+shift+f10, F5, or power options are doing nothing at all. I have to press my computer shut down button to turn off and I get joli OS 1.2 screen on sign out. I would appreciate your help, how can i go from cloud interface to the jolicloud installed on my notebook?

I have problem with battery icon on Acer Aspire One 751h, it’s not showing. It has appeared for about 10 seconds when my battery was too low but when i clicked on it and i wanted to configure sleep etc options(and i clicked somewhere elsewhere or i don’t know) it has disappeared again and i don’t see an option to turn it on anywhere. I had this problem too on 1.0 build about half year ago when i first installed this OS on my netbook.
Is there anyone with the same problem? Any solution for this?

I’ve suddenly developed a problem with the display on Joli 1.2.

Previously, I could have several apps running and they would be tabbed and accessible at the top of my screen.

A few days ago I noticed that each app would fill up the whole screen, preventing me from accessing other open apps or the Joli homescreen…

:) All right, finally I decided to upgrade to 1.2 from 1.1.

It went smoothly and all of my personal tweak stayed the same so I’m glad I didn’t lose them.

All videos, sound, everything works perfectly. No trouble watching flash videos or youtube.. as usual because I’ve configured my multimedia playback to work smoothly.

I love my Toshiba NB200 and Joli.

I’ve just installed Joli OS. On a Dell Inspirion 1300. I have Dell Wireless 1370 WLAN Mini-PCI network card. And in XP i can use the network but on Joli 1.2 not recognizing my wireless network! I’ve tried everything… someboy HELP?!

Joli OS 1.2 and Asus Eee Top 1602(with USB mouse and keyboard, no CD/DVD reader) does not play well together :(
Bootup or Reboot default OS is fixed to Joli OS. Can not select original OS(XP home) since all USB ports will not workuntil the boot-up is done(therefore can not select OS).
Chrome Browser can not log into Yahoo.Mail Hong Kong??? Can some one confirm this.
Apart from these two issues, Joli 1.2 is a wonderful OS.

Jolicloud 1.2 standalone install.
NEC Model 3500A CD DVD R/RW drive will not work in (into NTFS after Windows XP partition was removed).
160 GB HDD.
Same problem with Lite-on DVD player as well.
Is this a driver issue?
DVD drive will not open unless eject button pressed several times, and then closes rapidly. If disk installed, it is read then drive ceases to read. Open the DVD with any of the apps for DVD player and the title registers, then the drive shuts down.
Any ideas?

I was happy with my Jolicloud, until I installed the last version. Unfortunately it doesn’t play ball with my Dell INSPIRON mini. :(

So, now I’ve decided to get Ubuntu instead. But how do I create a USB drive with Ubuntu while running Jolicloud? I’m supposed to use the Startup Disk Creator program – if I was running Ubuntu, but I’m not. And I do not have access to a Windows or Mac computer.

This OS took a little work to get loaded on my Archos 9 tablet (given to me).

I was very frustrated with the speed of this tablet. It was running “Windows 7 starter edition”, I first tried upgrading to “Windows 7 Home Premium”, then after that disappointment; I formatted the tablet and installed a clean copy of “Windows 7 Home Premium” to see if there may be anything in the stock build that may be slowing the tablet down, and still this tablet ran horribly slow, and was very frustrating to use.

After all that tinkering I discovered Jolicloud. I removed Windows 7 completely, and decided to give Jolicloud 1.2 a test drive on the “Archos 9″. I finally have a pretty nice tablet, Jolicloud 1.2 is working flawlessly (I am using “cellwriter” for onscreen keyboard). I had some doubts on bluetooth functionality, but I had no problems getting a bluetooth keyboard with integrated mouse working. The touch screen application “eGalaxTouch” is what I used to calibrate the screen for touch capabilities.

So, during my evaluation of the OS, in comparison to running Windows 7, Jolicloud wins!

I have been running Jolicloud 1.2 for about a month now, and I have been waiting to write this to make sure I continued to have no problems, and guess what? No problems, or OS locks ups, and I have been using it for a variety of uses, on a daily basis.

Hi! Got the version 1.2 now, but impossible to upgrade Flash Player and watch videos, neither with Restore Utility nor any other solution found here : my computer can’t find any directory or file called usr/lib/firefox/plugins!
What shall I do? Please help!

I just installed Joli 1.2 onto my father’s Dell Mini 10v, when his XP simply refused to fully boot-up. So far it’s been great, except for 3 problems:

1. the first time I booted the Dell after installation, the Grub boot menu appeared, and I could choose between Joli or XP (I kept it but reduced its partition considerably). However, since that first bootup, the boot menu has completely disappeared, and turning the machine on leads to an automatic bootup of Joli. In my case, that’s ok, since I’m not likely to choose XP, but others with both OSes working would still like that choice, which would seem to have been taken away from them.

2. the “update” button does nothing more than “sync” my Jolicloud devices (and I only have one!), rather than initiate an update of programs. So it’ll tell me the Dell is sync-ed at the end of the exercise, but the updatable programs are not actually updated. When I rebooted the machine, the same old programs were listed as having updates. I tried the update button a few times to no avail, and finally had to update the programs manually using Synaptic.

3. is there something wrong with the Jolicloud repositories? When I used Synaptic to update the programs stated to have updates, I had no problems with those from the Ubuntu and other non-Jolicloud repositories. However, the updates for the nickel-browser family of programs (from your own repositories) all could not be updated because there was something wrong with the said repositories. Did their location change?

i just finished installing this and after the dual boot it all went black. I waited for HOURS and nothing seem to happen….

Ok, I’ve seen other people posting the same problem that I’m facing. I tried installing Joli OS 1.2 within windows. After it asked me to restart it got stuck on the ‘Continuing Boot Process’ screen for a long time. I eventually got bored, and restarted it. It still didn’t work. What might the problem be?

4GB RAM
And I’ve got ample free diskspace.

Hey i liked Jolicloud interface and tried to install it in my old laptop. i found it has low ram (189mb +64mb graphic shared) than required. generally 6 years old laptop comes with 256mb ram. instead of going for ten + years old computer if 256ram will be supported in recent update will bring life into many old system. i am waiting to see for such improvement.

So obviously the dashboard has a LOT of work to be done to. Personally, I think that the dashboard for Joli OS should be more customizable. Allowing you to add your own links to it, just like a desktop. Looks like until that day comes, either I hack the dashboard or put up with the menu key. Bleh.

Why does Boxee 1.2 no longer work as it did in 1.1.1? I do not have the choice to load as I did before and the icon is grayed out. I am using the try mode booting from a usb key. Anyone have a solution?

Now that I have installed Jolicloud my CD/DVD drive will not work can someone please tell me how to fix this problem. I want to be able rip music from my CDs to the music folder to listen anytime I want with out needing the CD in the CD drive

umm… i was just wondering if there was an alternative to itunes on jolicloud os and if there isnt is there a way i could install itunes on there? and i have tried this software before and loved it. but removed it because i had ran it alongside windows, and when i would switch to windows i tried to listen to music on itunes i couldnt hear any thing and it was like jolicloud took all of my audio and display drivers. and when i deleted it from windows i could not recover all of my memory either. if someone could help me fix this problem i will consider bringing jolicloud back into my home.

I could not understand this fu*k that whats wrong with linux based distribution developers, If you think that a working internet connection is required only to make os work, why dont they put all network cofiguration options on the welcome screen, some of them will give you option to adjust proxy but not the network, some of them with network setting but no proxy configuration option, isnt it better that first work on a simple thing that provide the user with a simple interface at welcome screen to configure network, so that rest of the shit he can access. The 1.2 really doesn’t want to work with my Aspire One ZG5 netbook. It’s incredibly slow and freezes for several seconds at a time. I don’t know if it’s trying to download some updates, but I (tried to) use it all afternoon yesterday. It’s really a pain. Unless there is a solution, I’ll change the OS back to Linpus. I suppose it’s probably a resources problem, but you do claim that Jolicloud works even with elderly computers. Maybe you should list the minimum specification on your site.

My screen gets disrupted with lines when handling jpg pic files, anyone has the problem?

Hi, I really feel annoying that I got to have an internet connection to login, and I can bear with that, but the most annoying thing is jolicloud doesn’t login even when I am connected to internet.I connect to my wired dsl internet and click on “I’m online now”. It just shows “waiting for my.jolicloud.com and i wait for half an hour and it sill shows the same. I am able to connect to the other sites using the terminal and chrome browser but I am not able to browse http://www.jolicloud.com even it just get stuck with white page on chrome.. Hi, once I install the jolicloud 1.2 from usb drive it shows i need to be connected to the internet in order to continue, after i connect to internet and click on ‘i’m online now’ it does nothing just sits there and trying the alt+ctrl+f10(desktop recover) only shows a black screen , however i am able to navigate to all the websites using jolicloud-webapp-engine , except for jolicloud.com/* why is it happening, can anyone help me loginto jolicloud. I have few problems on this joli os..
1. i need a usb stick i used to boot everytime to start jolii os
2. My pendrives are not shown in the computer. I can see it in disk utility but nothing from there.
3. its not a problem on this number is there any program that i can run from my hdd and open and edit ms office file formats. I meant when i am offline….

I haven’t installed it yet, but I tried it on a USB drive. As an Ubuntu user, I was able to create a bootable USB by using the Startup Disk Creator.

It looks like good stuff. I’ll try an install when I’ve have a little more time.
