Access your Dropbox from the Jolicloud Desktop

We recently integrated Dropbox into our Jolicloud Desktop and we are delighted to see that so many of you are enjoying it!

How to set up your Dropbox

First you need to link your Dropbox to your Jolicloud. Just click “Link to my Dropbox” as you see on the screenshot below and then “Add” the Dropbox service. You will be redirected to the Dropbox website in order to authorize the Jolicloud app. Log into your Dropbox account or create one and get 2GB of free online storage. Once the connection is granted, you are redirected back to Jolicloud.

Access your Dropbox files

As soon as you are connected to Dropbox, your files will appear in the File Browser. You can browse documents, check their details and launch them directly from your Jolicloud Desktop. For more advanced features like file renaming, we facilitate the access to the Dropbox website.

Preview Dropbox documents

Some media files like music, photos and videos can be accessed directly inside Jolicloud. This feature depends on the HTML5 audio and video codecs installed in your browser. If you are using Joli OS, make sure to install the HTML5 Video add-on to preview media files.

Playing a Dropbox video on your Jolicloud

using it already and loving it. if you now integrate a browser-in-browser window and social network updates into the web-frontend, i’ll marry jolicloud.

I use Joli OS on my eeepc and I have a Cr-48 Google Chrome notebook running Chrome OS as well. I would say the integration with Dropbox makes Joli OS far better than Chrome OS. So far Google is unable to build a good way to store files into Chrome OS. Files in the download folder are not easily accessible. Simply for this feature I would vote for Joli OS. Good work man!

I’ve set up Dropbox properly and enjoy the interface well enough. However, I also have a gDocs accounts, and thought that one feature of Jolicloud was that I’d be able to manage files between accounts… that Jolicloud would provide options for moving files, say, from gDocs to Dropbox.

Am I looking for a feature that doesn’t exist, or am I just not understanding the Jolicloud interface and purpose?

It was great, but it just stopped working. It asks me to link to dropbox but I already am. I tried re-linking with no sucess. It has gone from the my devices tab on the dropbox website.

WOW! I posted my last comment requesting for Google Docs in the early hours of this morning before I went to sleep….when I return home after my day it’s already implemented into Jolicloud! Sweeeeet!

Hello to all,

I am confused with the new way Dropbox is used within Jolicloud.

When Dropbox is linked to the Jolicloud desktop, I can access to my Dropbox files from the desktop. Fine.

But how can I access to my Dropbox files from within an application (say I want to grab a photo wich is stored on my Dropbox and send it as an attachment with Gmail) ?

I do not see anymore my Dropbox folders from the Files Manager.

I have the Dropbox client installed, and Dropbox starts automatically with the Startup Applications…

Any help would be appreciated :)

Now can we get Jolicloud to present dropbox and google docs filesystems for any upload or download requests. At least as a browser extension for the top browsers.

I totally agree with Robby above and have posted a Knowledge Base question (no reply yet), love the Dropbox integration but I need access to the folders from local applications like Keepass. I have tried every way possible to install the Dropbox client but it will not work even on a fresh JoliOS install. Hope you can help dort this out!!!

You can do very litte indeed with the Jolicloud dropbox browser. If you can’t move, delete, copy/paste, rename files it’s completely useless.

I love the way the jolicloud OS works but I can’t view videos on YouTube or any flash video. :(

I installed Joli OS 1.2 for the first time today and had problems with Flash Player/Chromium. I think the issue was caused by an incomplete installation. I reinstalled (via USB) and waited until the system prompted me to remove the installation media, which appeared to be at the point the system had shutdown and was restarting. All works fine now.

Think I’m just gonna go back to XP- it boots in almost half the time and has proper dropbox integration. In joli OS I can’t even copy and paste files into dropbox to synced whenever there is a connection. In fact, I can’t manage ANY files (local or cloud) without ‘leaving the joli OS interface and opening naughtilus.

I think Joli OS has many great features, but it’s still pretty lacking in functionality…

Is it just me or is there no way to ad a file to dropbox? So, let’s say I have a foler I want to sync… Why cna I not do that on Jolicloud? It was easy with ubuntu!
