Look, listen & watch on your Jolicloud

by Tariq Krim

November 5th, 2012

It’s only been a few weeks since we have released the new Jolicloud and your feedback has been great. We have spent the last week improving and polishing the user experience, and we’ve added two new services: YouTube and Vimeo!

We all have the same problem: we use a lot of different services that host our favorite pictures, music and videos. How can we access them in the nicest way possible?

A new image theater

With Instagram, Picasa, Facebook or Flickr and all the photos we have in our Dropbox, Box or Google Drive, we are exposed to a lot of photos. Because we love the idea of browsing through all of them quickly and easily, the team started improving and redesigning the photo experience.

Not only is it fast, awesome, and displays the photo location, but, as an added convenience, this image player can be used with left and right shortcut keys.
Make sure to add all your photo services on Jolicloud!

Music non-stop

With the integration of SoundCloud a couple weeks ago we unveiled the prototype of a nice music player. It was great but not enough for the team that decided to give it a very nice facelift. A gorgeous design including album covers, playlist management, and automatic playthrough so you don’t need to click to the next song: Browse your entire Jolicloud while listening to your favorite tracks! We are making this player the new default music experience and it will be plugged not only to SoundCloud but also to all your other services (including Joli OS).

And because it’s all HTML5 you can listen to your favorite podcast on the new iPad mini while having a coffee and browsing your latest Instagram pictures (like I do!).

Welcome to video

We love YouTube and Vimeo and there are tons of great things (including music we can’t find elsewhere) but you have to admit the online video experience is not always suitable. We hope that our latest addition will become your new addiction: with the support of YouTube and Vimeo, you can now access all of your favorite videos as well as featured content and have all of your videos organized in one place. And the interface is quite amazing!

To install YouTube and Vimeo, go to the settings of your Jolicloud and scroll down (they are at the end of the list).

We hope you will enjoy our latest features! We can’t wait to hear your feedback.

Meanwhile the new Joli OS is coming, is there any way to see the new Jolicloud Desktop by default in Joli OS? You guys did an excellent job, the new look and the integration with Soundcloud is really awesome!

Yeah I’m with F1F0, I’ve seen a few hacks around the web so I know it’s possible. Please integrate Pepper Flash into the version of Nickel that comes with the new JoliOS.

Just wondering, if anyone could help. Now that I’ve gone to the new Jolicloud, I can’t seem to find my computer settings anymore. Like power settings, screensaver settings, things like that.

Anyone could help? Thanks :-)

Okay try this if it helps.
Right click on the top most left corner of your screen and select add panel.
You can add main menu icon, to help you navigate easily, you can also add other icons, as you desire.
Am just a few days old user of jolicloud, still trying to get familiar with this great work myself.
Hope it helps.

@Alberto: We have decided to remove the mobile apps from their respective app stores temporarily. They will be relaunched later this year.

You can now switch to the new desktop if you’d like, just click the notification on the old one ;)

looks like there are still a few bugs to work out: can’t open images from hard drive or external drives from the desktop. when going to setting, it’s put you back in to the old desktop. You guys are great and I know you will work it out. just curious to know how many people have experienced the same problems.

@giuma I’m experiencing the same problems as well. For example, my videos from my hard drive. And not having the ability to browse the files, like right click on them etc.

@giuma @Kyle: The ability to stream local files is a known issue. We’re working on it :)

@giuma: I think you simply click on the link to actually revert to the old desktop.

Thanks for the update. In the meantime, I’ve just added the “places” tab to the top panel, as Ts suggested. I think the new desktop is visually more appealing and more intuitive than the old one. Once the kinks have been worked out, it will continue to be the best netbook/laptop OS there is! Thanks for the outstanding work.

@owschkkaar The Windows installer has been developed before Windows 8 was released.
M$ probably changed something, we’ll look into it! Thanks for your feedback.

Hello,
Just yesterday I was trying to install Jolicloud into my ACER Netbook over windows7 as a dual booting system. But when I restart my netbook it is asking for internet connectivity, and there is no other option where I cancel this operation and go into the OS, and I tried to setup a Mobile Broadband Connection for my 3G Dongle ( I use Reliance 3G connection here in India ) , but failed to connect.
And for your information, when I used my 3G dongle into my Win7 it does not ask for User id or Password and even I looked the setting , there is nothing info by which I can setup in Mobile Broadband Connection into Jolicloud. my APN is Smartnet, that only info I can give…..b but it always shows disconnected.
Can anybody explain the correct procedure which I may follow to start Joli OS.

I had the original Jolicloud, and will be very, very sure to download and install the New Jolicloud on to my NetBook asap. But I was wondering, did not the original also have an ability to be used as an app within Windows??? And does the New Jolicloud have as well? I really do not want to dual boot my O’l Acer 5740 ( formerly Win 7 [default installed OS] and now Win 8 [upgrade] ) Lappie.
I have been looking at Jolicloud via my browser, and I got to say I’m in love with it. I shall download the full ISO as soon as I have enough Data Allowance (I’m on a pay as you WiFi scheme and have a monthly Allowance.)
Keep up the great work, and I do tell a lot of people about Jolicloud. You know, once I get this installed (as sole OS) on my Li’l o’l NetBook (a Samsung N150) I shall have Win 8 on my Acer, Jolicloud on my Samsung and PinguyOS 12.04 LTS (soon to be 12.10) on my rescued Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pi 2515 Notebook .

Yes, the Windows installer is still available but it’s not compatible with Windows 8.
That said, the native install using the ISO is also safe: http://help.jolicloud.com/entries/230978
You can specify to keep Windows alongside Joli OS at step 4.
