Introducing Jolidrive: Get your life together

by Jolicloud Team

March 12th, 2013

Thanks to you, Jolicloud has become, over the years, the best alternative cloud platform.

With our OS, our desktop, our app center and for some of you, our collector netbook, the Jolibook, we have been able to make the cloud more easy and accessible to everyone. Until now, only one thing was really missing to make your experience complete: a simple and elegant way to access your online data. This is why we are introducing Jolidrive.

We’ve tried different ways of giving you access to your data, but they were not exactly what you were looking for. We went back to the drawing board and decided to answer a simple question: if the cloud is the online hard drive containing all my data, why don’t I have a simple access to it?

This is how we designed Jolidrive: as a re-imagination of what online storage should be. It was designed to fit together perfectly with our Jolicloud Desktop. If you are already using our desktop via Joli OS or the Web, Jolidrive is now a part of your interface.

Jolidrive is amazing, and will change the way to look at our content in the cloud. To introduce its features, we created a little video:

Jolidrive allows you to access all of your data with one simple interface from your browser.

We are kickstarting Jolidrive with the most popular services on the web like Dropbox, Box, YouTube, SoundCloud, Instagram, SkyDrive, and Google Drive, and more will be announced in the coming weeks. One click, and you will be able to access and play all the content you have created, liked or shared with friends. Because the video you liked or the photo you shared are also part of your personal cloud.

The beauty of Jolidrive is that it can work everywhere. A lot of you started your Jolicloud journey on a Joli OS computer, but have moved on to the iPad or mobile devices. We have good news for you: our HTML5 application works perfectly on the iPad too!

In the meantime, enjoy playing with Jolidrive and don’t forget to spread the word!

Happy Jolidriving!

I like the concept but there are flaws that keep me from using it. The OS keeps preventing pages from changing, because Chrome browser keeps popping up the same page and redirecting me back to the setup page instead of letting the pages change. I use the Gnome top page system to do everything. If I want to use the Jolicloud system I have to pull up Firefox and use the web pages.

Kim, what are you being redirected to?

still, an upgrade to ubuntu 12.04 is required, the kernel is outdated, and some GUI option would be nice – like re-sizing the app icons and chose the old interface or custom one.

As always, beautiful interface.

But I’m still waiting for news about Joli OS.

As of now, it seems dead.

Hi there,

Search is being worked on.
Native apps have been removed from their stores some months ago but we have plans!
And, in the meantime, the web app works great on both tablets and smartphones :)

Hello Joli team.
The joli drives seems to be a great idea and product so far, I have been using it and it works flawlessly and I also think that is the case for Joli os, that said, I do not think it is the best idea to not have release an upgraded version of it because the LTS used is around 3 years old, which is extremely outdated, I believe it will be wiser to create a new version with 12.04 which is more polished also. thank you for making this great product and keep up the good work.

I like Joli a lot. A whole lot. Now that I’ve tried it out a bit I’d like to make it my only OS but I can’t find the USB creator in the app center and when I tried to download the USB creator for linux I kept getting error messages. I’m not a techie, totally clueless, and can’t get around it on my own. Any help at all would be awesome!

I am pleased with all your efforts, particularly the introduction of JoliCloud / JoliDrive. I can understand that this has taken up considerable time and resources. I am just concerned about the future of JoliOS. I do think your blog is really in need of an update about future versions of Joli OS. A timeframe is not personally important to me, but ideas and knowing there is a future for Joli OS is important to me. As I would love it to be a PrimaryOS on one of my systems. I’m sure it will be to many other users as well. Keep up the great work!

Absolute beginer So!..will joli os 1.2 be upgraded to ubuntu 12.04lts,if yes, when,as 10.04lts is due to be retired. Will you release an iso at that time ? Joli Os is very different from the other Linux OS’s in looks and style..With proper support and helpful user base I can see no reason why Joli Os should not grow ever more popular..10/10 Keep up the good work..Mrs GPS…….

So does this mean there’s no iOS app?

…and how do I add Pocket to my Jolidrive? I see a little lock icon and cannot click it to add it.

An iOS app is planned :) Stay tuned!

I sent you an email regarding your issue.

Once JoliDrive is installed, how do I get back to my Chrome Apps page?

May 30, 2013

@Dan: I guess you installed the New Tab Page extension. Just disable it from chrome://extensions/

Note you can install Jolidrive as an app for the new tab page if you don’t want to replace the one from Chrome.
