Jolicloud 1.0 Upgrade Guide

Welcome to the Jolicloud 1.0 Upgrade Guide. We've announced previously that we'll be progressively upgrading existing users to Jolicloud 1.0, with first access given to members who have been with us since the Alpha launch, followed by all other users in batches.

Update: Everyone can now upgrade to Jolicloud 1.0.

Here are the steps included in this guide:

  1. Upgrade from Jolicloud 0.9 (Pre-Final) to Jolicloud 1.0
  2. Restart
  3. Sign-In
  4. Sync your apps

Note: Advanced users can also get a faster upgrade using just a few command lines.

1. Upgrade from Jolicloud 0.9 (Pre-Final) to Jolicloud 1.0

Click on the Jolicloud icon on the top right. You'll see a screen like the one below.

Click the "Update Now" button in your Update page. When it's done, you'll need to restart your machine.

After your machine starts up again, you'll see the new splash screen.

3. Sign in

If you're not online, the system will ask you to connect to the Internet.

When you're online, you'll arrive at the welcome screen below.

Sign in either with Facebook Connect, or by entering your username and password.

4. Sync your apps

If you use Jolicloud on more than one device, you may have installed different applications on each of them. If it's the case, you will see a notification in the top bar to synchronize all your apps. Of course, you can remove the apps you don't need anymore and they will be removed from all your devices.

Fast upgrade for advanced users

The upgrade to Jolicloud 1.0 is also possible through the command-line interface, which is usually faster but more intented to advanced users. This can be useful as well for users who might have encountered an issue during the standard process detailed above.

Just open a Terminal (in Accessories) and enter the commands below. The apt-get dist-upgrade command will take several minutes to download and install all packages required for Jolicloud 1.0. Once done, make sure your work is saved and restart your computer by entering the last command.

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
$ sudo reboot
